2018 German sales results from Auto Bild - where does BMW stand?

In the 2018 calendar year in their home market, BMW had the biggest sales increase VS Audi and MB in their home market with +1.2%, Audi was down -9.9% and MB slightly up 0.2%. But don't rely on these numbers because it's what cars they are selling that is important.

By individual model it's not as rosy though:

- Best selling premium is the Mercedes C class with 62,784 units (5th rank overall!). Second is the Audi A4 in 7th place and 53,340 units. then the Audi A3 in 14th place with 45,901 units.

- Best selling BMW is the 1 series in 16th position (44,143 units), then the 5 series in 19th place with 42,358 units. the 3rd best-selling BMW is the 2 series (including Touring version) in 23rd place with 38,169 units.

- What about the 3/4 series you'll ask? Individually, the 3 series is in 28th place with 34,514 units and the 4 series in 81th place with 13,663 units. If you combine their sales it would represent 48,177 units or 9th place overall, still below the A4 and C class.

No surprise that the 3/4 series is not selling so well. The F10 has not been up to BMW "ultimate driving machine" standards and the new G20 has been getting excellent reports. So I would think that most folks interested in a 3/4 series are waiting.

Well... In Germany people prefer Audi over BMW, I'm not really supriced about those numbers to be honest.

My thoughts exactly. The F30 is here in its final year.

And furthermore, if you combine A4 and A5 sales, Audi is way out in front of both competitors with 53,340 + 19,829 = 73,169 sales despite both the A4 and A5 being down considerably from 2017.

I think you mean F30. But yes the F10 also sucked nuts to drive.

The F30, aside from tech, was just an all-around mediocre car built to the lowest common denominator. You know something is wrong when grannies are driving 3ers parked in handicapped spots. Stop trying to be Lexus. It wont be missed by anybody.

A4 and A5 have just been refreshed, the new 3 hasn't come out yet. That will bump up sales surely.

I was surprised at how well the 1 series is doing considering it is in the final year now and also that the i3 has gone up 18% which is again an older chassis.

Taking into account that the next 1 will be FWD, a lot of potential customers have no real reasons to wait the new model 😁
