M240i to C63 Sedan, smart move?
When I was searching for a replacement for my 2016 Cayman S, the only vehicle that really stirred me and gave me that "I want this" feeling was a 2016 Jaguar F type R.
That car was beautiful, had instant throttle response with gobs of torque and amazing sound. I wanted it. But alas that car was too impractical and expensive for the confines of domestic compromise. Running out of options after trying many cars, I tried the m240i after seeing some very positive reviews. I was surprised how much I liked it, the b58 is a peach of an engine, and the turbo lag was among the least i have ever experienced. I liked its small dimensions and comfortable ride. So I ordered an m240i xdrive, which sat well with my partner. She really liked the dimensions of the car and its easy fun manner. She loves "baby bimma" While I have enjoyed the car, it doesn't feed the passion. I still want that f type. Wondering if the 2015 and up c63 sedan might be the closest I can come to that f type... I am going to test drive one, but interested in hearing the perspectives of others who have experiences with both the c63 and 2 series... |

Just get an F type. Do you need practicality for kids? If not fuck it. Life is short get what you want. The C63 has no similarities to an F type, IMO...a regular F type with a V8 depreciates and you can probably find a used one at a reasonable price!
The M235/M240 have no passion. They are boring and uninspired. Get something with some balls!! EDIT: just looked on Autotrader you can buy a 2015 F type R in the $50k-60k range used. Just buy one man...

the c63 is ok. but you aren't going to find anything 'soul stirring' with it. especially coming from a cayman.

Anything less than the F-Type and you'll spend every day thinking "man, I still really want that F-Type".
I'd get a certified F-Type R...prices are pretty good these days as Jag depreciation does what Jag depreciation does. Worst case scenario, drive it for a year and get it out of your system. Not sure what the taxes are on cars in CA but other than losing some money on tax you shouldn't take too much of a hit on depreciation if buying used. Best case scenario, you'll love it. Either way, you'll scratch the itch and will be able to move on.

Car's are expensive bro. After the mortgage and kids' college loans it's usually one's largest expense. Get what you want!
Your girl probably has a practical car. If you have kids use that car to carry them around in. Have the F-type for yourself and when you take her out. |

FtypeR is what you want, just get it.
Or if you don't mind used and out of warranty... Maybe a cheap used N54 1er and look at advancements in single turbo conversions, closest thing you're gonna get to a special car in the recent generations of BMW. Of course, I'm biased.

Ummm ... I gotta ask: Why not a 718 GTS? Solves your torque problem ... (Heck: the base 718 solves your torque problem) ...
... or wait for the C8 'vette or the Supra? The Jag's a great car in many ways, but way too many folks are abandoning them after 1-2 years of ownership, and have been since it hit the roads. That should tell you something. (and before you or anyone else mentions engine sound: Sure, OK. Meanwhile, I'm faster than you. Which would you rather have: a sexy voice but average physique and stamina, or an average voice but sexy/stacked/hung physique with stamina for days?)

As others have said, just get the F-Type. You’ll love it. My parents have the R and it’s a blast.
About 18 months ago, I decided to quit compromising on anything in my life that I could control. One of those decisions was a car. I’m in residential real estate so a practical car is seen as important. I was close to buying a C43 to replace my Jag XF Supercharged. But I decided not to compromise and instead bought the car that I had wanted for several years... a Lotus Evora S. It was the best car buying decision that I’ve ever made. The rare inconvenience of having that car in my industry pales in comparison to the amount of joy that it brings to me. Don’t compromise. Get what you really want or you’ll always ask yourself what if. Worst case scenario, you buy the F-Type, drive it 6-12 months only to find out it doesn’t fit your lifestyle, and sell it. At least then, you’ll know and won’t wonder what if. But maybe you’ll do what I did: buy it and at some point look back and wonder why you didn’t buy it sooner... then drive the hell out it with a huge grin on your face. |
