It's not a mod. I agree it's ugly in 99% of cases to leave them on. Perhaps if the car is yellow or the others badges are done in yellow or something, it'd look ok.

I took mine off when I got the car home.

Not going to lie, if I had one, I'd leave the covers on.

If people are spending money to buy the covers on eBay to add them to cars, is it a mod then?

Technically no since these covers ALREADY come with the car but are normally removed by the dealer upon delivery.

You'll scratch up the bumper/splitter if you do.

So if someone on eBay is selling an OEM part from a car, like a set of factory wheels, and another person buys those wheels and adds them to their car, that's not considered a mod?

Also, I thought "mod" was technically short for this:

mod·i·fi·ca·tion
ˌmädəfəˈkāSH(ə)n/
noun

1. the action of modifying something.
synonyms: softening, moderation, tempering, qualification

2. a change made.
synonyms: alteration, adjustment, change, adaptation, refinement, revision

I wouldn't have thought it was temporary just looking at the pics. When you pay for the car you get to leave on whatever you want.

Uh no, it's 100% Domestic Rice. Typically our Mopar section of Coffee Cars is that way. The Camaro and old man Vettes are not far behind. Painted engine compartment shit with themes and LED's galore.

Not sure what is more humorous, the fact that Dodge owners have these to add-on or not or the argument of whether or not it is a "Mod"

Well - like most arguments about things of absolutely zero real-world consequence - I'm sure this battle will be bitterly fought by both sides for eternity.

I can understand both sides... does it add a little bit of color to an otherwise hellishly boring car, or is it akin to leaving the Styrofoam on your TV after you've unpacked it?

Is it a "rice" modification that adds unnecessary weight and drag to the vehicle for purely cosmetic reasons, or does it add much-needed protection to a section of the bumper so easily scratched under normal use that the manufacturer had to add protection just to safely get it from the factory to the dealer without damage?

Personally, I think it's akin that little plastic film over your iPhone, microwave or alarm clock screen.

Some people like it and try to protect the protector, some people don't know it's supposed to removed, and other people will look at it and go "huh, I guess someone forgot to remove these" and take them off and throw them away at the first sight.
