Pretty good race. glad I watched it.
The good: Merc strategy to get LH from 14 to 1st. The bad: SV crashing out, DR DNF, not a full on wet race, didn't see LH battle SV on level ground. The ugly: team orders at both Ferrari and MB. Karma: SV won at Silverstone, LH wins at Germany. |

Bad driving. VET. Ran off the track whilst under no pressure. Not the first unforced error in racing for VET, won't be the last.

Not really. Those were the Merc/Lewis and Red Bull/Max fans. Most of them Brits and Dutch.
But what a mistake from Seb

The only good thing about the outcome was not having to watch LH get all pissy about losing.

It may be rules-strangled racing but then what series isn't. And there was one HECK of a lot of passing in that race! The midfield action was fierce. And rain on just some parts of the track? Brilliant. No it's not 1960's - 1970's F1 but that will never come back again. And it was certainly a fantastic demonstration of driving skill. Mostly

A shame?...Absolutely. I felt badly for him.
If misery enjoys company, he joins this list of 6 F1 greats who also crashed out while leading. https://www.goodwood.com/grrc/race/h...ve-dropped-it/ |

Small mistake, huge consequences.
Vettel was in some sort of pressure assumed he knew that Hamilton was chasing the leader about 2 seconds a lap with hotter and sticker ultras in rain condition, whilst VET, RAI and BOT are all on worn tires. After being stuck behind Kimi for several laps and losing precious time, he was re-establishing the gap. Then the rain dropped, even though he was already cautious approaching the stadium corners, the back still steps out and he ran out of road to rescue the car. Shame, could be interesting to see HAM and VET racing in the end. Sad to see both Kimi and Bottas racing for their contracts rather than race positions. But I understand why Mercedes did that (even though I don't like it very much), with the second rain-downpour coming, a hard fought one-two with Kimi close behind, Merc cannot afford any wheel banging at the last several laps. We're half way through the season and only 17 points between HAM and VET, and 10 points between Merc and Ferrari. Cannot wait for the second half of the season. With the amount of flyaway races and unknowns, (e.g. Singapore will be a weak weekend for Mercedes giving the past history, they never quite got their car right there somehow).
