The BMW's are a joke in IMSA. I've been watching the race and I'm not sure they could even win the GTD class. It's a shame BMW has fumbled the M8 GTE so terribly.

This was also the case with M6 in first years. Just as they start to make it work, let's try something different. M4GT4 and DTM are the top dogs right now for M

Agreed. The M4 GT4 is doing really well and I'm glad to see that BMW can still at least manage to make the M4 into a good race car. Ever since they got away from the e92 M3 the performance has been sub-par. The Z4 GT4/E (which i really loved) had some decent success winning a number of races and the GTD IMSA Championship, but the M6 had marginal success and the M8 isn't looking like it will win a race this year. Seems like its just been a steady decline.

I really do wonder what in the hell BMW/RLL are even doing in North America? This has been an absolutely incredible race in GTLM (in every class, really), but BMW is just nowhere to be found.

As a BMW fan, it's frustrating.

Read a very interesting article in Racecar Engineering, not sure if I can copy it here but in summary, BMW were screwed by the other manufacturers leaving it to the last minute to sign-off and then insisting the design had to be changed.

There probably were errors made anyway, it's a new car after all, however the other manufacturers liked the value BMW would bring but worked to hobble them as well.

Excuses.

Sorry, but this is top tier GT racing. You can't show up, have a shit season, complain about how hard it is on the backend, and walk away with absolution. All the teams face the same political challenges, and yet teams like WTR come out swinging in their inaugural year. RLL needs to sharpen the tip of their spear.

The GTLM Bmw has a hard time passing the fastest GTD cars......they got screwed by the BOP. But it can't just be that. Come on, BMW should be able to do better than that. Very frustrating to watch.

After the restart, Sims just lost 10 s in a few laps to the next slowest GTLM. Is the car really that slow? I guess so.....
An now he lost another 5s in just two laps. They are worse than Williams in F1 this year....

I was just looking at the live timing and BMW is running at least 1 second slower than the rest of the GTLM field on their FASTEST laps. BMW is at a 1:44.6 and a 1:44.3 for their fast laps. Those are the types of times being run under race pace for the rest of the GTLM field. The other GTLM cars are running 1:43's for their fastest laps, with one of the Fords at a 1:42.8.

It just makes your shake your head. BoP may not be fair, but that's not a legitimate excuse. The car just doesn't have the pace. It's even more frustrating when you see the other manufacturers come out with new cars that are winning and mixing it up at the front end of the field. I get that it is a "new car" but you didn't see this with the new Porsche or the Ford GT. Those new cars have been winning....

The new car thing is a lame excuse.....

The drivers have got to be getting tired of giving these types of statements.

I'm just gonna quote the message I sent to the drivers...

"Watkins Glen race is over.

Guys... although I love BMW and I love racing I didn't like what I was seeing at Watkins. I watched the full race, the timing, the onboard's and you have to do your homework.

This is racing and you have to put more agression in it, more determination and what's most important more heart. The car is good for it and you have to push it to the limits and you have to fight.

Spend more time analyzing the tracks, the conditions, the car, the team and yourself instead of spending time doing stories on instagram. Don't let me down because I believe in you. See you in Wisconsin 🤟"

And I really think that way. Look at how Porsche drivers were overtaking and attacking up to the level that other cars were getting out of the way out of the track.

And how, exactly, do you know the car is "good for it"? Pinning this on the drivers seems like a dick move.
