Keep in mind, there are currently no known plans for an S55 or S58 powered Supra. It will use the B58 at launch, and perhaps indefinitely. There are rumors of a hybrid too, but so far nothing has been confirmed by inside info.
I thought it was worth clarifying that. |

I don't believe the Supra should be revived at all, it's such an iconic car and I truly believe they should leave it at that.
But... since that's not an option, I think a BMW motor is a great choice, after all they make some good ones!

It just seems for a car that is going to cost north of 70k probably that it is not staying true to its past....just doesn't seem worth it as it is not really a "supra" with a BMW engine...not really excited about it at that price either...

McLaren F1 had a BMW engine and nobody thought of it as a lesser McLaren.

While the Supra was one that emerged over time and was more of a tuners car that really took off with that tuning scene in the late 90's. So there is a special era and group of people that see the car with the 2JZ engine as something special and dumping a BMW in it and having a body that resembles the supra with a high price tag ...not sure that is going to cut it. Of course that is just my opinion...and maybe that is not there target market... Everyone loves a fast car so that may be the key... |

What if Toyota brought back an exact duplicate of the last gen Supra...to the Tee... no manufacturer ever does that, but man would that be an awesome experiment... pretty sure the market on 97' Supra's would drop like an anvil... from $70k to $7k. like. that.

BMW makes great I6 motors and I think it’s good for BMW financially and wonderful for Toyota since it really doesn’t have that caliber of engine and saved them a ton in development costs. I’d buy one if the price is right.

Toyota designers have hinted at $50-$60k in the past. SupraMKV's insider also mention that Tada-san it should start $55k.

So it'll no longer have Toyota reliability or maintenance ease. Should be a great selling point

After owning BMWs for over 40 years, I guess I missed the part about the engines being unreliable. Only engine that I had to replace was in my 1995 540i because of the nikasil problem. BMW replaced the motor under warranty even though the car was no longer in warranty.
