Dash cam footage of a WRX STi running me off the road. UPDATE: Driver identified
Don't be a douche while driving on mountain roads. Late model Subaru STi almost ran us off the road. Almost squeezed the Fiat 500 Abarth off the road too. Happend on Angeles Crest Highway on a Sunday morning. Be careful "carving" canyons out there guys, and don't be a nozzle please.

By my calculation, had he contacted either one of us going southbound on ACH, we'd all be dead meat because we were easily going around 40 mph down hill while he was in excess of that easily traveling northbound. The collision would have been between 7,000lbs of metal traveling at each other at the equivalency of 100+ mph. Wonder if I can get the local sheriff to charge him/her for attempted murder.

Crossing double yellow on a mountain road? Honestly, had neither one of us in the BMWs had over 20 years of experience driving and instructing on track? Both of saw him coming a mile a way and was able to swerve around a fast moving, 3,500 lbs object while maneuvering our own 3,500lbs object. Your average driver? I think we could have been dealing with fatalities here (I've seen drivers get object fixation and freeze up and STEER toward danger). You're right though, there is unlikely to be any resolution even if I were to be able to confirm the license plate number. But it would put my mind at east to have done SOMETHING. Maybe next time CHP sees the same nozzle on Angeles Crest they'll keep an eye out to make sure he/she doesn't go out and murder someone. Quote:
I'm awaiting the Abarth guys to confirm the plate number before I make a determination as to what I want to do. Let's just say I'm still fuming that IF he/she had struck me, that would have left a 9 year old girl without a father, a wife without means to support the household, and two elderly, retired parents without support for his/her callus, careless, and reckless act on public roads. If nothing else, I think people really need to be aware of the dangers of canyon roads and LEARN SOME ETIQUETTE. Crossing double yellow to pass is just a "see you next Tuesday" move.

Thanks to the diligent detective work of the So Cal Abarth Club and the So Cal NASIOC Chapter, there's a very high probability it's this guy:
https://www.instagram.com/vics_sti/ Still no legible plate in video, but the 3 Abarth that he almost ran over to execute that unsafe pass on Angeles Crest Highway shared some screen grabs, plus with what we can see from the front of the car, have matched quite a few details. Same offset license plate, something mounted in the center of the front license plate location. Yellow fogs. Front splitter and side skirt similar. The So Cal Abarth Club member whom the STI tried to stuff into the mountain had dash cam footage too. Third brake light under the diffuser, similar stickers on the bottom left bumper. Too bad the plates aren't legible to compare, but we're almost certain this is the guy. Turns out he posted a video of a "run" with a Porsche Sunday morning on Angeles Crest Highway shortly before we were coming down from Newcomb's Ranch on his Instagram feed. As well as another post about how one should "stay in your lane," Turns out the guy's a hypocrite and a habitual double yellow lane crosser. I know it's a tightly knit car enthusiast community. Please spread the word so EVERYONE having fun on local mountain roads (Angeles Crest, Ojai Highway, PCH, etc, that this guy frequents) be careful and be aware of this douchebag.

Here's a shot of just how CLOSE the STi came to hitting the 340i camera car...7,000+ lbs of steel meet at 100+mph of speed differential.
This is a wide angle dash-cam @ 170º field of view. I was behind the 340i in a 328i and by my judgement the two car couldn't have been separated by more than a foot.

Had a similar car pass me dangerously on ACH a year ago, it was dark colored and either an STI or Lancer EVO. But there are people who put everyone's lives in danger for no good reason up there.

I still would take the video and evidences to a local sheriff department. Even if they don't do any charges. I do not think this guy will stop been a douche until karma hits! Hopefully it does not involve others when that happen.

Ooh...I have enough industry connections I might just be able to do that. Time to pull a few strings. Thanks for the tip.
I only put it on the So Cal section. I've tried researching a little but I don't think he's on NASIOC? Although someone identified him pretty quick.
