Wow! With the exception of the 1 series (since it's just been introduced) and SAV models, the rest of the BMW line-up has been decreasing in sales. I'm not that surprised due to the lease rates as well as the economic slump that we're in.

That'll add up to some pretty agressive and cranky people at the dealership. Munich needs to do what Seoul does with Kia and Hyundai when the results look like that--they just fire managers no questions asked. You don't get excuses from the Asian carmakers, they just beat the Big 3 for the 1st time ever. Now that's pretty sad indeed.

MINI is having great success with the new 2008 R56 model.
Some BMW models are suffering, others are picking up the slack. Overall sales are down slightly. But with three new vehicles in the linup (1er, X6, Clubman), that is not so great. YTD 2008 YTD 2007 Change 131,758 134,944 -2.4% |

Wow. Those are rough numbers.
I remember looking at the April numbers, and these numbers bring out the same thought: the tightening economy means that people who are on the fringe of buying a BMW probably aren't. They are doing CPO, they are buying a less expensive brand, they are holding onto their existing car. So it doesn't surprise me that 3er sales are down, because presumably the 3 Series, generally the entry level car (because how many people are really aware of the 1 Series right now), is the one with the lowest barrier to entry. So it is the one that people who are on the edge financially would be most likely to buy.

You wouldn't have guessed that by the way we were treated at a BMW dealership today. They had so much inventory that I couldn't find a place to park, but the salesdude was completely indifferent to me - very little interest. I was looking at a 335i and an M3. At least he let me take the 335 out on the highway - I got to go around the block in the M. The experience was bad enough to make me stop by, *gasp*, an Audi dealership on the way home. Much, much better treatment. I'll be going back to try out an S4, but I'll probably still end up with a Bimmer.
I have pretty much ruled out the M, though - I think I'd be getting in a bit over my head. The 335i seems like a really great car, one that I could probably be very happy with. J |

Kinda impressive that the 5series is still doing so well since its been out so long.
Most sales figures are crappy this year of course.

It's a buyer's market for sure.
Four years ago, I had to cry loud to get 1K off the MSRP and put up with their stupid attitute. These days, anyone will get 2K off just by walking in to a dealership. Hey... I call it Buyer's Revenge |
