Audi A5 road test: Faster than I thought

Audi A5 manual road test, from Road and Track:
0-60: 5.5
0-100: 13.8
1/4: 14.0@100
60-0: 114
slalom: 67.1 mph
skidpag: 091g

I honestly didnt think it would be a sub-6 second car. Must say I'm pleasantly surprised.

Well then you take a look at the 1/4 mile. Eh.

.91g is good though. Braking is also good.

Can a 330i post similar times?

I didn't know that, but then I usually don't look at the lesser models from each range. I have tried the A5 3.0TDi before I got a chance behind the wheel of the S5 and it impressed me beyond measure, the same was true for the 335d. I know in the States neither of these models are on sale as of yet but when they come I think you need to try either of them before picking any other in the range.

They really are that good.

Really? I didn't know 330i was 5.5 sec 0-60. I thought it was closer to 6 sec.

When C&D tested the 330i a few years back, they got it to run 0-60 in 5.6 seconds.

The numbers do stack up like he said. In Car and Driver they got 5.6s to 60mph and 98mph@14.3s for the 1/4mile.

But when Road & Track tested a 330i saloon they didn't get anywhere near the C&D time, in fact 6.2s was their best effort which was worse than the older model.

Even allowing for a 0.1s improvement by the coupe the same magazine that tested the A5 at probably the same venue couldn't get close to matching the Audi. More data will be required to see if the R&T times were a one off, but if not then that proves the advantage awd has in terms of consistentency, which is all important for you would be street racers.

but who cares if its a little faster then a 330i anyways? I like my car a lot more and people who buy the A5 like their car more.
