Luxury vehicles dominate total quality survey, but quality drops for first time in 4 years

DETROIT (AP) -- Luxury brands once again dominated an annual U.S. automobile quality survey by a California research company, but total quality dropped for the first time in four years, the company said.

BMW led all brands in the results released Wednesday by San Diego-based Strategic Vision Inc., followed closely by Hummer, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Infiniti, Lexus, Land Rover, Cadillac, Lincoln and Volkswagen.

not true...this is only a recent trend

for the last 5 or so years mercedes was getting trashed in their surveys due to poor quality..only until lately have they picked up the ball again

That is the most poorly written news I have even seen. It isn't clear at all what BMW leads the pack in. The second paragraph says VW leads in overall quality. I am completely confused.

Overall luxury cars/suvs. VW scored higher overall but is in a different class.

If you follow the web links, all the categories are broken out.

But I agree, it could be clearer.

true, and Range Rovers are always at the bottom of the pack.

The tests are kind of bs, they usually go by "reported problems" per 100 units or something like that. For BMW that used to be 'I can't make I-Drive play my CD' where a Hyundai transmission could have washed out.
