Oregon Fuel Laws
This is so totally awesome:
Oregon Gas Laws “I’ve lived in this state all my life and I REFUSE to pump my own gas . . . This [is] a service only qualified people should perform. I will literally park at the pump and wait until someone pumps my gas.” Made my day to read that. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. You are LUCKY to find a full service station in western Canada.

"Qualified" lol I don't care how long someone goes to school to learn how to pump gas safely, I'm not going to pay them for it.

My wife is from OR and we visit a couple times a year, super weird that they do that. I never know if I should tip the guy or what. Cool place otherwise, love Ashland

I pump my own gas...when I can. The first time I moved here I accidentally pumped my own gas. Gas station attendant ran out to yell at me and told me not to move cause he was calling the police. This kid would not budge. So I waited for the cops. When he arrived I explained the situation, told him I just moved from Hawaii. Officer and I both looked at the kid and had a good laugh.

Every time I gas up in Oregon, the attendant just stands there, offers no additional service like maybe cleaning the windshield, etc. and sometimes slops gas on my car (which is a major piss off).
Other than that law on no-self gas, it's a beautiful and great state. We love the Oregon Coast.

I had always assumed that being a high school lettered athlete counted as the pre-employment training - that's how it worked in my home town (a year after graduation and our star QB was still wearing his jersey at the pump).

I had no idea full service pumping still existed. I saw one many years ago in Dallas, Inwood/Forest Texaco.

I read those comment on FB the other day and literally almost fell out of my chair laughing. I really couldn't tell if most of them were being sarcastic or they were really fearing for their lives by having to pump oh so dangerous gas.

Posted this in the LOL pics thread, but couldn't resist posting it here.
Grew up near the NJ border so I'm familiar with full serve, but I can't believe people are freaking out about this in Oregon.

Nobody read the law, but apparently it's only allowed from something like midnight-5am, when most teenyboppers have to be home snug in their beds. How is MKSixer supposed to fill up the van before he returns it????

It is. I've actually never driven through NJ until last year and pulled up at a gas station to fill up. Grabbed the pump and the guy was like yoooo I got it... you cant pump your own gas. I was like WTF are you talking about. Then my friend laughed and told me that's how they do it there.
Tipped the dude a buck when I rolled out. No idea if that's proper etiquette lol |

It doesn't. Unless by "Full Service" you mean you wait for a few minutes for an attendant to waddle up and spill gas down the side of your car.
I lived in Oregon for about 10 years. Like anything in life, if you get to know the station and the people you can bend the rules. The station I frequented always let me gas up my motorcycle (Attendant doesn't want to waste time standing there because they cant click the trigger lock on and walk away.". At the time I had a 74 Mazda rotary pick up with a fuel cell in the bed. They always let me fill that up myself because it freaked them out that the gas went into the bed but only after you poured a few ounces of motor oil in! They let me gas up my 68 Datsun roadster because it had perfect paint and chrome and no one wanted to take responsibility for the fill up going wrong. The only thing they would fill for me was my POS Toyota commuter that I washed annually. I make the drive down from Seattle in the M2 a few times a year and always make it a point to gas up 30 or 40 minutes outside of Oregon so I can do all my driving in Oregon without filling up! |

Heh... a few years ago, on the way back from Montreal F1, to my buddy's place in DC, we stopped in NJ, along 95 somewhere. We knew the drill. Guy comes over, asks what we want, we tell him, he puts the handle in, sets it, runs away. To the other 8 pumps
I figure... while we're sitting here, I'll get out and clean the bugs off the windshield. Why not. As I'm finishing up, he comes over... "Yo... You know that's *MY* squeegee, right?" "Uh, no". Since I was almost done, I finished up. "Thanks for letting me use it." I wasn't sure if he wanted a tip for letting me clean my own windshield or if I should have asked him if he actually purchased it with his own money and it, indeed, wasn't provided by the station owner. |

Full serve in NJ is a joke. Like everyone said, they spill gas all over, plus they keep topping off the tank till it spills out while they're rounding up to avoid making change for a cash purchase, and to top if off, pun intended!, it's a great opportunity for them to steal your cc / debit info. Self serve all the way!

It's on the list of states I'll never take the van into.

Why the fuck would you want anyone to put fuel in your car other than yourself!? You can't control the grade, the insertion (scratches), the removal (scratches), the dragging of the hose (scratches) and the dipping of fuel down your car.
I would personally HATE it if anyone else put fuel in my cars other than myself.

I saw them before the first album came out, and on a number of occasions, including 2012 when they toured with Blondie and Bob #2 was still around. They were always a great show. I think many people underestimated their musicianship due to the theatrics. |
