Heater blows warm air without warm coolant

The heater blows warm air immediately so it must be heated electrically like a dryer but doesn't feel dry so must be pulling air from the outside.

Yes there is a preheater behind your dash.

Interesting. I thought it was just keeping some of the antifreeze insulated - saw a longish post about how these engines have advanced insulation so they seldom start from cold (and I would have sworn that it did not do this after sitting all weekend, will have to check it out again).

I noticed my x1 seems to heat up substantially faster than my last car, a coupe. Now I know why.
