Any forum members deal with EPA warranty issues?
We have a 2014 GTI (stock, babied, not tracked or modded) that just turned 68,000.
Around 45,000 they replaced the turbo and water pump under warranty. About 3,000 we began getting an intermittent CEL. I took it to the dealer, got a call "Your intake manifold is cracked, that will be $819." OK, thank you and I hung up, took a ride over and got a print out of the codes. It showed 3 events of P2015, which I found out controls the flap in the intake manifold. According to the EPA, the intake manifold falls under emissions warranty for 8 yrs/80,000 miles. Needles to say I called VW. They called back today offering to pay for the part only, ($220) leaving me on the hook for the other $600. According to the PDF link on the EPA's site https://www.epa.gov/air-pollution-tr...nd-air-quality the intake manifold is indeed listed on page 4. Anyone else deal with this type of thing?

The way you need to make them pay for the entire repair... is to have your car run thru your state inspection and have the inspector(in writing) fail your car for that intake valve. Then go back to any VW dealer and have them fix your car. That is the only way you will get them to pay for the entire repair.
Have you tried contacting VOA about this? You might mention that your next step will be to inform the EPA about it. Dackel

I did speak to VW a few weeks back, they "graciously" offered to pay for the part only- a $200 part. After reading and re-reading the EPA doc, the manifold can be covered by the manufacturer, but only if they choose to and VW stands by 5/60,000 on that part. On earlier MK6 GTIs the manifold has been extended out to 100,000 miles.

I sincerely hope you did not pay for the work; that part is (should be for your car) covered under an extended warranty:
Info: https://shopdap.com/intake-manifold-...-0t-tsi-p2015/ Copy of the letter: https://changegears.wordpress.com/20...nty-extension/ If you do some searching, you can probably find more detail, but I bet your VIN is covered (almost all GTIs up to 2014 were). Apparently the 13 and 14 GTIs are not covered since they were built with a revised part.
I've been going around with VW - truly assholes. I asked to escalate the situation, and the phone jockeys aren't allowed to let me talk to one of their superiors. Likewise, when I was at the dealer and asked to speak to their district manager I got a blank look and a we can't do that. They gave me 30 days to act on it. I'm better off buying the part and DIY, but if that doesn't fix the issue needless to say I would be steamed.

Wow, that seriously sucks...
I replaced the manifold on our 09 GTI a few years back; it wasn't too hard and should fix the problem. Replace the PCV while you are at it. |

Write VWoA via a registered letter thru the US post office. This gets their attention. Make sure to reference the service action on older model years and what the phone "jockey's" offered you. Tell them your next step is to contact the EPA and register a formal complaint. Maybe say your car won't pass your state's emissions too. IF that doesn't work... register a complaint with the EPA and your states General Attorney office. Buy the part and DIY. Save the receipts - you never know if there will be a class action lawsuit or an extension to cover your model year. Good Luck, Dackel

Good call. A certified letter might find it's way to the right desk quicker. Here's another thing that burns my shorts, after I got the car back from the dealer, I changed the oil (vw calls for 10,000 mile oil changes) Ive stuck to 8,000 miles with an additional filter change at 4,000 like I have since I bought my 330i a very long time ago - what can I say, top mounted oil filters were and still are a novelty to me after years of having to get under the car). At any rate, it was clear they didn't bother to even take the plastic engine cover off, not a fresh sign of hands anywhere and they had the nuts to call me an hour after the car was dropped off to let me know "well, its got a cracked intake manifold that will be $819." Needless to say they simply ran the codes and p2015 was the only thing to come up.

Theres a runner delete kit for the mk6 also that might save you from having to fix it again.
https://www.uspmotorsports.com/Engin...elete-Kit.html If you do end up getting the intake fixed I would get it done at a repair shop that way you can get your intake valves it walnut blasted at the same time.
