What do you guys think about getting a CPO Tesla? I'm wondering now that the 3 is out, and in a few months as they ramp up production what effect this will have on model s residuals. There seems to be a few good deals on the used ones but they don't tell you what year the car is, just the mileage and battery or whether it is all wheel drive, unless you click further.

The used ones have a warranty and have free supercharging. They cost about the same as a new model 3.

Tesla's are perhaps different than normal cars, but I'm of the school of thought that unless you are just absolutely flush with cash, buying a car brand new is very stupid.

You do know that probably 85% of the people on this site fall into your "stupid" category. Although I must say I do love new cars. I just simply lease them because after 3 years I am bored with the car and need someting "new".

New cars are meant for leasing.

CPO cars are meant for buying by us suckers and pay the deductible to fix everything that went wrong during the leasing period.

I've been watching their site for used/CPO cars. They had some Model S dip into high 30s. It's a great car for commuting.

Unlike a petrol powered car I'd be concerned about having to replace the battery which is not a cheap proposition. Kind of like all the exotics you see super cheap that are due for a huge service.

Not sure though that they've been out long enough for good data on real world battery life.

Funny, I was thinking the opposite. You wouldn't have to worry about the engine being abused or poorly maintained with a used EV. I guess it could go either way.

Wish I could remember where but I recently read something about Prius folks having to do new batteries and it's very expensive. Can only imagine Tesla being more.

At the end of the day it's basically analogous to an engine swap from a functionality perspective. The motor is comparable to a tranny really.

Impossible to say without know the price, how old it is and the condition. At some price level I say yes.

What CPO comes with a deductible? Mine doesn't have one.

Maybe things are different in your end, but when I bought my CPO I had to pay a $50 for each work order.

I dont get why you have to pay for it. CPO meaning dealer inspected, repaired, and certified it before putting it back on the market.

CPO process should be done by the time you see it in their website or showroom.

We don't do the CPO until the vehicle is sold, and customer has paid for CPO. We don't know if it will be sold CPO or not until then. Many customers will buy it as is.

I see. Here it's already CPO when it's on the lot. Anything that will not be certified are usually auctioned to 3rd party dealers.

But why do you have to pay for deductibles if the car is still under warranty if there is a need for repairs?

Here it's a mixed bag. Some are CPO but priced higher, some just used and sold at a discount to CPO but if you want CPO you can pay to have it done. So it basically amounts to the same thing as your situation.
