How to get out of this mindset?
I had my bmw m4 2015 for two years! Bought it brand new. It now has almost 5k miles lol. Reason being is because i am fortunate to have another car that we're leasing! But at age 23, my mom and gf tells me why would you leave that car in the garage? Take it to school, take it everywhere you go!
The reason why i hesitate to take this car out is because i dont want people to hit or vandalize my car.. but i keep trying to tell myself to enjoy the car!! But i am just superstitious about taking it out to crowded area or even in LA!! |

It's a car. It's made to be driven. Drive it. Enjoy it. Stop sweating the small stuff.

ive been this way since I got my license. my father has always been this way as well. We daily beater cars and keep our nice cars for the weekend or once a month..lol For us its more ocd. We tend to overly take care of our hobbies and honestly, we live in the Midwest so lots of rain and snow so we choose not to drive them on those days. I also work very hard for the things I buy and I just couldn't justify driving a 30k car everyday just to have to replace it in a couple years and its worth nothing. I am middleclass so I'm not rich by any means. I would rather drive a 1k car everyday to take the abuse of daily driving(especially in Chicago), than drive any of my nice cars. I love the feeling that I get when I only take the nice cars out every weekend or so, it feels like a brand new car all over again. To each his own but this is how I enjoy my hobby and everyone is different.

Everyone enjoys their cars differently. Some drive theirs to death. Some polish and lock them up in a garage never to see daylight. And some do both.
Personally I am totally like the OP. Its nice to have a "nice car" that you can enjoy on your own terms. Maybe that's taking her our for a drive once or twice a month - and that's Ok. Don't let other "tell you" what YOU should do. Just listen to your inner voice and do things that make you "happy". Dackel PS: It's awesome to have a daily "beater" that you don't have to worry about door dings or where you are gonna have to park. I find it totally liberating.

I can't see paying for something I'm not enjoying. That said, how you enjoy the car is up to you.
My wrangler is my work car, but everything else is the BMW just because I love to drive it. Yep it's going to get some rock chips and maybe some dings, but I enjoy driving it more than it sitting in the garage. |

I don't drive the M4 much, either. I usually drive the beater.
The i8. A car, like a watch, is meant to enjoy. I laugh at my friends who have lots of watches they never wear on automatic winders. If I own it, I own it to use it and enjoy it.

Don't be afraid of going nuts with that car. If it breaks, fix it, if it gets damaged, repair it. I found out the more cautious you are, the more likely bad things are going to happen to it.

It's not like it's going to retain value by not driving it. You earned that money for it, you should drive it. I think you're wasting your money if you buy a car just to look at it in the garage.

Thanks for the replies! I just hate how people can like ruin your day by messing with your car. I go to CSUF so i am hoping that people are matured and have some respect for other's belongings. There are always the bad kind of people who just destroys what they think is nice..
Ill try to drive it out more. Its 2 years already and time passed by so fast! I gotta enjoy i guess!! Cant enjoy something when i am always superstitious on someone harming my car lol. But, hopefully ill get over the fear of it |

Here's another way of looking at it...someday you will be sick of the car, sitting in the garage and decide to "upgrade".
The next guy gets a completely mint, preserved and well kept M4. You are essentially taking care of it for the next person. BTW I speak from experience.

i used to be the same way. I used to make excuses not to take my car out. Then my car got keyed and i realized its just a car. I see people die everyday at work and it makes you think. Drive it and enjoy it as much as you can bc no one lives forever.
