On the way to the "European 1Addicts-Sella 3.0" BMW-enthusiasts-meeting a group of hot BMW sports cars and a special Jaguar F-Type experienced the terrific Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

This part of the tour leading to South Tyrol was named "Getting Alpine High"

The scenic tollroad located near Salzburg in Austria connects with an overall length of 47,8 km the Austrian regions Salzburg and Carinthia. On its way it crosses the Alpine divide and two pass summits - the Fuscher Törl - Pass (2576m.a.s.l.) and the Hochtor Pass (2504m.a.s.l.).

The toll road starts at tollgate Ferleiten and ends near Heiligenblut (both in Austria). On top it contains a detour to the famous Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Height visitors centre at 2369m.a.s.l with a brillant view on the glacier and numerous 3000m-mountain summits.

With its numered hairpin curves, slow and fast passages this highest surfaced mountain pass in Austria is effecitve one of the most sophisticated roads for driving enthusiasts.

With 35€ the toll is very expensive but garantees hours of driving entertainment.

The driving crew was formed from a BMW M4, a BMW M2, several BMW 1M's, several BMW 135i's, a BMW M135i, a BMW Z1, a BMW Z4, a Jaguar F-Type S and a BMW 118i.

















The route led the participants from tollgate Ferleiten to Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Height and Heiligenblut.

I can remember that. A bus blocked the whole road in the narrow U-bend and the traffic stopped completely. As we were relatively fast it became close The guy behind me even locked up the wheels...

Driving the Gross Glockner should be on everyone's "bucket list". No matter how many times I drive this area... you can not help, but to be in awe of nature. And to think they held F1 races up this "hill" in the '30's! Amazing!!

Every year towards the end of summer(~Oct/Nov), they still hold a "classic" race up the Glockner.

There is a small car museum up in the GG. I've never gone in. I have always wanted to see what's inside though. Our time schedule just never had the time for it.

The famous Porsche Saw Mill factory. It was here after WWII that Porsche built the first batch(~53 ?) Porsche 356 cars out of aluminum bodies. This is located as you head outside of Gmund, past the old ruined castle, then look on your left side for the old saw werks. There is a new soccer stadium across the street. (Karner Au 3, 9853 Karnerau, Austria)










The Porsche Automuseum Helmut Pfeifhofer, in Gmund, Austria. This is a private museum, but really a must see IF your into Porsches. The Porsche family home in "Zell am See" isn't that far away either.

This "little bitty" sign is telling you at this exit they sell Vignette's.






When you drive on the Austrian Autobahn... you need a Vignette. They cost eight euros for a ten day pass/decal. No Vignette means a 120 euro fine. AND if you have a Vignette but don't affix it to the windshield(or affix it partially, as to remove it) that will cost you 500 euros! Because the Austrians think you are moving it from car to car. Just buy a Vignette and fully stick it on your windshield.

Yup! 34 euros one way toll! Its worth it though!!

We try and hold a "big" driving tour every summer. Usually late summer(September-ish). Normally I post it in the European section of 1Addicts. You can still see our planning threads and past road trips there. Best thing is to just PM me when you are interested in a road trip. I think this coming Summer we will do two or three events - bc some of our long time guys will be moving back to the states - while others will be moving back to Germany after a long absence.

We also have/know of a lot of guys in the Munich area... so often times we just have an impulsive driving tour for the day - South of Munich or in Austria. I always like those type of spontaneous driving events.

Here to planning next year's Sella 4.0 tour!

Yes you can
I took the video and the OBD2-data with the M-Performance Drive Analyser app on an iPhone 6. The data overlay was made with RaceRender3. You can get more information about specific program versions in the video details.
