Collections from when you were a kid....
NO I am not referring to those of you who cannot pay your monthlies
On a serious note, I presume we all collected things from when we were kids. What did y'all collect? Do you still collect this item or did you sell or pass it on? How did you get into the hobby? ---- So between my Dad and my Uncle, I acquired a pretty large baseball card collection. I was really into it as a kid and have a bunch of cards. Don't collect them anymore and in fact, looking for an appraiser or some method to sell them as I fear EBAY is not the proper means.... so feel free to refer me.

I still have binders of baseball cards (mostly late 1970s - mid-1980s) in plastic sheets in our guest room closet. Too valuable to throw away but not valuable enough to exert effort to sell.

Reviewing and appraising baseball cards can be crazy time consuming. I have a slew of cards too and I know some are worth probably hundreds. But it's just too time consuming to research. It doesnt help that all mine are sorted by team and not by actual brand and series. I collected baseball cards, pogs , MTG old school cards which I was informed were the Alpha & Beta series, some odd star wars shit and autographed baseballs. One day I'll eventually get everything organized and appraised. I'll eventually get the MTG cards appraised but according to ebay they are worth $$$ |

I had a bunch of hot wheels and match box cars as a kid but can't remember what I did with them. I know they are gone now.

I collected catapillars but they kept dying and I had no idea why so I caught more in hopes they lived longer each time.

I had every Star Wars toy from the original movie trilogy - first editions. All used, like a normal kid would use. Even things you had to send away cereal box tops to get (heh). I gave it all to a young cousin and he destroyed it all. Damn - wish I had that back or at least saved it for my own kids. Original Millennium Falcon, Darth Vader collectors case, the 12" figures, at at walker - I believe literally every toy in first edition... Fuuuuqqqq

As I got a bit older I started collecting the 1/18 scale model cars. Think I've got about 15 in my mums loft. Everybody says I should sell them but they're not really worth enough to sell. Don't want to throw them away either though. The cars I bought as a kid were the cheaper £20-40 ones as its all I could afford with my pocket money but always wanted one of the really detailed cars that are about £100+. Every now and then I think about buying one for my man room. I also built a model train set in the loft when I was about 12 but this has now been stripped down and the trains sold. |

I've never collected, just played with many of the popular toys of the 80's (Star Wars, Voltron, Transformers, Wheeled Warriors, etc...) However, I have a friend who collected Transformers since he was a young lad. He is now around my age, lives at a efficiency at his parents property, has TWO ROOMS filled with every Transformers toy ever assembled (has to be worth a small fortune) and wonders why he is still single, claims he's a nice guy, is a musician and even has Transformer decals on his car. To be fair, he was once married, not sure how it happened but it happened. Low and behold, she left him after not even a year. Meanwhile, he is still searching.....

As a kid, I collected the original Star Wars toys, Transformers, Legos, Matchbox cars, and cards. Cards was mostly baseball cards as a mix of wax packs and yearly Fleer sets but I also collected movie cards from the Keaton-era Batman movie as well as Gremlins. My dad had what sounded to be like quite a baseball card collection growing up but my Grandma didn't keep them after he deployed, although my dad had wanted to hold onto them. As a result, my dad has kept all my old cards and toys are still boxed up and stored in my parents' basement even though it's been a decade since I moved out.

Marvel comics, Legos, Pokémon cards, and pogs.
All of which are in a box collecting dust in my parents basement next to the dust covered box of hopes and dreams. |
