What should I get for my car?
I have some money I can spend on my car, I'm not sure exactly how much yet but it could be up to $500 or more and I've been dying to mod it a little.
I could get either the BMW Performance short shift kit or the Rogue Engineering Ocatane (which one?) or a new air intake (Gruppe M rep? aFe? Whatever one **********s is selling, I'm confused which is the best especially for the price?) Another thought I had was to lower my car and get a better suspension set up, I might be able to afford the BMW Performance suspension or the Tein or Koni kits **********s has but I have a question, my car is a 328i non sport which means I have the 16" rather ugly rims and I definitely can't afford nice rims so would my car look ridiculous lowered with those rims? The BMW Performance kit only drops the car 15MM (is that 15MM lower than the sport package or than my standard car?) so it probably won't look too different... Basically I'm just looking for opinions, short shift kit, intake, suspension?? What would you get? Oh I could probably combine the SSK and intake since I can probably afford them both. |

I would spend money on some cosmetic mods- spoiler, led side markers, etc.
With $500 you could get a short shifter kit but then you would have to pay for installation as well. Also, no one will know you have the mod unless they're inside the car or if you told them about it. |

Take your$500, keep it in the bank, throw some more money in there every couple of weeks..........and......... wait tell you get over a grand. Then you can get into the stuff that you will actually be amazed with like wheels, and dinan products. Everything else you spend $300 here for a shift knob, $100 here for cool lights, ect.. , in the end you will wish you just saved that money and had been saving it.
After moding a bunch of cars, I found this out the hard way. START WITH THE EXPENSIVE STUFF AND WORK DOWN.

The reason I want a short shift kit is a lot of times if I'm not paying enough attention I don't push the lever hard enough into 3rd or even second and I've ground my gears maybe 5 or 6 times in the 12,000 miles I've had the car so it seemed like a worthwhile upgrade, and I like the way short shift kits feel. On the other hand, I was at an autocross yesterday and I didn't miss a single shift all day so I don't really feel like I need it any more. And anyways, I have decided to keep the money in the bank along with the other money I have saved up for after college because no matter what one or two things I do buy, there will be hundreds of other things I wish I had gotten so I'm just gonna sit on the money. Thanks for the suggestions anyways though. |

I'm just going to say that I don't think I've seen any aero kits that look good on the E90 sedans. There are plenty of amazing ones for the E92s.
If anyone wants to prove me wrong with a nice E90 body kit, aero lip or whatever go for it. This thread is pretty much dead now anyways.... |
