Note: Despite the June drop in sales, BMW's sales of 28,855 units beat out Mercedes' 28,473, Lexus' 25,779 and Audi's 18,445 units sold.

BMW Group U.S. Reports June 2016 Sales
BMW brand sales decrease 10.3 percent
MINI brand sales decrease 20.4 percent

Official Release: Woodcliff Lake, NJ – July 1, 2016… Sales of BMW brand vehicles decreased 10.3 percent in June for a total of 28,855 compared to 32,176 vehicles sold in June, 2015. Year-to-date, BMW brand is down 9.0 percent on sales of 153,436 compared to 168,623 sold in the first half of 2015.

Notable vehicle sales include the BMW 7 Series which increased 69.2 percent, the BMW 2 Series which increased 139.4 percent, and the BMW X3 which increased 69.5 percent.

“The mid-point to the year always brings some uncertainly about what may be ahead in the second half, so I’m very pleased to see several of our key models showing strong results in June,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “The X1 and X3 are indicative of the still growing trend toward Sports Activity Vehicles, but the numbers also show that great cars like the BMW 7 Series and 2 Series have a strong appeal and following.”

Does BMW include M cars in those sales figures? For example, is the M2 considered a "2-series" sale?

All M Series and M Performance are combined within total monthly sales.

However, they are totaled separately at years end to show growth with the M division and compared to Mercedes-AMG.

quattro GmbH (Audi) is very quiet about their totals because in 2013 their stated goal was to get global sales to 15,000 units!

Here is BMW M GmbH for total sales for fiscal year 2015:

The vehicles of the BMW M GmbH have contributed significantly to the BMW Group record sales in 2015.

In addition to the classic M models such as M3 or M5, the M division also develops M Performance automobiles like the M135i or M550d.

In 2015, BMW sold around 63,000 vehicles with the M in the name M or M Performance, which is an increase by approximately 40 percent over the previous year.

The BMW M3, M4, M5, M6, X5 M and X6 M accounted for around 35,000 vehicles.

So BMW's own M totals are two different numbers, M cars with one total and then M cars and M Performance cars added to one total for M GmbH.

For reference BMW M GmbH is responsible for BMW M, BMW M Performance, BMW Individual, BMW Individual Manufactur (within Individual) and BMW Driver Training.

The headline is a little mis-leading as the other Germans are growing:

"Audi reported that its June 2016 sales increased 1 percent to 18,445 vehicles, the brand’s 66th consecutive monthly sales record in the U.S."

"Mercedes-Benz USA Reports Best-Ever June Sales Of 28,473, Up 1.5%"

Exactly! There is a big difference between gaining and losing market share. Bmw is losing market share, the competitors are gaining it.

Now , for the furat time i am considering a Mercedes . s class is more apealling than 7, the e class is on anither level of luxury than 5, the c class is nicer than 3 series etc . I think it's a Matter of tine untill bmw will ho down unless they change Their design language, a better interior and more than all rebecame the ultimate driving machine

Again German manufacturers figures are being driven by SUV sales.

How come BMW's SUV sales took such a big hit then?

Amazing numbers for the 7 and 2 series and it's good to see the 6er holding its own.

You'd figure lack of sales would mean more allocation slots and earlier delivery.. but not

I don't see any of that at all from the numbers.

I see the most desirable BMW cars, the 2 series especially, and the 7 series, increasing. People want a "real" BMW, and the 2 series shows it. The 7er sales have been good because it's more of a "real" BMW than anything of the Bimmers lately: beautiful, nimble, sharp, and fresh. I see BMW SUVs pretty much stinking it up right now except a couple models. One of these days they'll have to face the fact that the car that does everything but excels in nothing is pretty stale and you've been winning over customers who simply aren't loyal and are there for that ONE purchase instead of many. They'll cart down to the Mercedes showroom to drive the amazing C class because they feel like they're getting something for their money and have fun driving it in the meantime.

It seems that the cars that drive very well are the cars which sell now. The new C, the 2 series, and the new 7 is proof.

There was a stop sale on many 7 series in March and April due to a recall. Most 7s on the dealer lots were affected. That skews the 7 series data a bit.

I think that BMW USA didn't understand pretty well the luxury cars demand for this year.
They had an awesome 2015 in sales, but have done nothing to keep the trend for this year too..
Otherwise it's almost impossible to explain the massive sales drop, taking into account that on the other markets BMW is doing quite good 😊

Perhaps increase the residuals on the 2017 M leases, and sales will jump a little bit.... Gotta be competitive!

This is perfect example of what sells. Smaller and sportier cars such as the 2 series and the X1. BMW needs to rethink their marketing strategy. The 2 series needs a 4 door sedan or go back to make the next 3 series more like the e46 era 3 series.

It's crazy how sales are dropping, yet I continue to see more and more BMWs (newer ones too) on the road here in the GTA.

These are applicable to Canada as well I'd assume? It does say BMW North America after all...

+1. I'm seeing more and more LCI 3er's and less pre-LCI's each day. Never mind the slew of new 7er's I see in and around the downtown core.
