GTR obliterates Turbo and Z06 in first US test
http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=6594
Cliffs: GTR slower in a straight line than either by a noticeable amount. Turbo nearly matches Z06 in straight line, beats it on track. GTR obliterates both on the track by. Slowest track time I've ever seen from the Z06 relative to the turbo. Were they sandbagging it, or was this turbo tweaked? |

Really, I just read an article where the GTR was faster than the Corvette on the track. I guess it was a 0-100-0 test though and the GTR dominated the braking aspect.

From the data panel the GTR was the slowest car there, so I think your thread title is a bit misleading. Plus having the professional factory driver in the GTR doesn't exactly make it a fair comparison.

Steve Millen is a world class driver in general. Just because he used to do testing for Nissan, doesn't mean he can't drive a Turbo or Z06. I'd still take the Turbo over the GTR as a real world car. In it's price range, I'd be likely to pick up a C2S, or R8. If I wanted a car for track use, neither GTR or Z06 would be my first choice for that price. |

GTR is a beast. That being said, most of the cars we drool over are not fully appreciated in our daily commute or on the street driving down to the nearest trendy hip bar. And even if I owned a GTR, or a 911 Turbo I wouldn't take it to the track because I would feel guilty driving such a nice car in such extreme conditions.
Personally, I'd keep my 335 for daily driving (more than enough power to enjoy) and then buy an ariel atom 500 for the track above all P-cars or GTR. |

This GTR isn't some Civic that's pushin 500 to the wheels. It's a masterpiece of engineering, almost as much and arguably moreso than any P-car on the market at the moment. The technology it posesses is remarkable. Don't dismiss it because of the badge please.

Actually if a hyundai released a car with 500hp, accelerated the same, handled the same, and was just as fun to drive PLUS was significantly cheaper as a p-car or GTR you bet your butt I would buy it over a GTR. For me, when it comes to driving on a track its all about having as much fun as possible. If a Hyundai will provide the same amount of fun I don't mind driving it at all.
Now of course, if the Hyundai was priced the same as a P-CAR or GTR, then in that case there's no way I would buy it...that would just be illogical. Everyone has a reason for what they like and what they want and what they drive. |
