Where to go in Europe?
My wife and I are going to Europe in September. The first part of the trip is fixed. We will spend a week in France and then a week in Switzerland. We have an additional 9 days. I will have a rental car. The two options I'm thinking of are Vienna, Budapest, Prague or up the Rhine to Amsterdam and back through Brussels to Paris to drop off the car and catch our plane back home.
I worked in Amsterdam a few years back and would like to revisit for memory sake. But on the other hand, seeing new cities would be great too. Any thoughts about where to spend 9 days in Europe while traveling with a rental car would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Personally I would pick Vienna, Budapest and Prague. There's more to do in those cities than in Amsterdam/Brussels. All are beautiful though. I spent time in all of them in the last couple of years - Amsterdam and Brussels are really nice but relatively small.

I loved Budapest and Prague when I went. Vienna is ok, but id probably pick some smaller areas to visit in Austria since you would be hitting two larger cities after.
That said I love Amsterdam too, but since you have been id stick to the East. Why Brussels is on your list I have no idea. |

If you like sight seeing, Swiss is a must. Interlaken and Lucerne are gorgeous. Check out the "top of Europe" in Jungfrau.
We stayed at the most expensive hotel in my life but it was all worth it. Hotel villa honegg. |

Hello, Prag is a very nice town but not my number one Choice in Europe. Budapest is not so popular...in Europe there are more other Locations you can visit. Area of Toscana in italy, the "Neuschwanstein" (Castle King Ludwig) in Germany and Zugspitze. Salzburg (Mozart House and the Castle) in Austria.

I think I'm okay. Work hard, play hard. I've been to Europe 4 times in the past 10 years and I'm used to the prices. Also, the dollar is very strong against the Euro as compared to my other visits. And finally, one week of the trip is with family in Switzerland and I have to really fight hard to pay for anything. In exchange, they come to visit and I won't take their money either.

BTW, since you are in Belgium, do you have any recommendations. I've been to Ghent and loved it. My first time with Duvel in a proper Belgium pub. It was great until I stood up! |

I agree. We will spend a week there. We have been several times over the years to see family. The Lauterbrunnen Valley and Jungfrau are among my favorite spots. We took the cog-wheel train to the top of the Jungfrau. What a trip. We hiked down and stopped overnight in Wengen, an amazing car-less village. The next morning we hiked back down to Lauterbrunnen valley. Amazing. |

Indeed our Belgian beers are no doubt the best and world famous.. ------------------------------------------- I find our cities nothing special , but that's probably because I'm used to see them . But last year I drove through the Belgian Ardennes , you know the forests with the twisties and high revs in the ///M . -------------------------------------------- And I need to say I stopped here (watch the video) to shoot some pics with the car ect..and I was really amazed by the beauty of nature. And of course a pic from my car in front of the lion ...

Nice photos and video. We went through that region many years ago on our way back to Amsterdam from Euro Disney. We wanted to go through Luxembourg and ended up that section of Belgium. Really beautiful. |

I prefer Southern Germany/Austria/Northern Italy/Tirol to Eastern Europe.
Have you seen my ED threads? In Brussels there are two really cool museums. AutoWorld and next door the National Military Museum. I highly recommend visiting both of them. Places to visit near Munich while on ED... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1241090 Dackel's European Delivery Museum Guide http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=494657

Well... Brussels is very nice. Since you will be going to Amsterdam... I recently visited the Military Museum of the Netherlands. Its brand new and quite interesting. Dackel tours the National Military Museum in the Netherlands... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1250364 In Brussels this are the two cool museums located right next to each other. Also the grounds that these museums are built on are quite spectacular. Very Parisian in feel/style. We show you the Belgium Royal Military Museum in Brussels... http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1072285 We visit AUTOWORLD; Brussels, Belgium http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=942443 Also close by to Amsterdam are these museums... We tour the Louwman Museum in the Haag, NL... http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=992214 We visit Oorlogsmuseum in the Netherlands... http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=995318 South of Munich... Café Winklstüberl & Tatzelwurmstraße is hard to go wrong. Bad Tölz, Meisbach, Bayrischzell, areas are quite nice to drive. Then head down to Kufstein, Austria via the back roads(not Autobahn). See the bellow thread for more details... Places to visit near Munich while on ED... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1241090 Annecy, France - near Geneva, Switzerland is awfully pretty. Stay in Anncey and explore Geneva by day. Your wallet will thank me later! Strasbourg, France - is another great city. I would suggest visiting the famous Schlumpf Collection. They even have a sister museum across town for trains(real trains). But I have never found the time to visit it. We show you the Schlumpf Collection - Mullhouse, France... http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1178767 Here are some of the BEST most memorable places I have been too. I have been to them many times, and it never gets old. We tour Classic Remise Düsseldorf (again)... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=927836 Classic Remise also is part of MotorWorld now. They have two other locations... one in Stuttgart which used to be called MeilenWerk MOTORWORLD Region Stuttgart, Graf-Zeppelin-Platz 1, 71034 Böblingen And one in Berlin... Classic Remise Wiebestraße 36-37, 10553 Berlin I'd rate them as #1 Düsseldorf, #2 Stuttgart, #3 Berlin. Technik Museum Sinsheim 2013 (250+ Pixx!!!) http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=835078 EVERYONE should go visit Sinsheim at least once. This place is awesome. Started by a few car guys, still run as a rather large car guy group. This place is open EVERY DAY of the year and has it all! Russian Concorde, French Concorde, tanks planes and cars and bikes. When you walk in you are greet by Rommel's troops dug in, in the desert! Simply an Amazing place, with a capitol A. Plan to spend half a day here. They even have a sistem museum in Speyer, near HD. Speyer is about 25 minutes away from Heidelberg. Sinsheim is 30 minutes away from Stuttgart. Sinsheim is a MUST SEE place in my book. Of course everyone should go visit the Porsche and MB Museums. Must see places too. And you are so close. Another really cool(but small) place is this museum South of Stuttgart. Boxenstop is a charming small. cool museum. Boxenstop Auto und Spielzeugmuseum (Car and Toy Museum): near Stuttgart, Germany http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...6#post17578936 Now this place really isn't a museum. Its more of one man's eccentric collection of "stuff". I really love this place! Just go into it not expecting much - and you will enjoy yourself. Fahrzeugmuseums Marxzell - near Stuttgart, Germany http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=790929 Italy... Panini Motor Museum - Modena, Italy... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=790960 1Addicts at Stelvio Pass.. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=707757 Go to Verona and spend a night or two there. Near by is the Nicolis Museum and this place is really a great museum. Something for everyone in the family. It's a really nice museum. Museum Nicolis - Verona, Italy http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=959180 I can never get enough of the Sella Region. The mountain formations look a little but like Utah, but there is a reason why Sella is on the UNESCO's world heritage list. This area of the Italian Alps is awesome. Such incredible roads and sights. Spend two or three days here. Dackel's and Artemis's excellent Italian Alps adventure... http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=975344 Solden Pass(Austria) is another great road. You could drive from Austrian, down the Timmels Joch(Pass) which takes you past Solden and then down to Trento. You can not go wrong driving any of these roads. Anywhere in the Schwarzwald(Black Forrest) is great to drive! That is the land of the Cuckoo Clocks and smoke hams/meats! One of the weirdest and cool places I been to was this place(like I mentioned above)... Fahrzeugmuseums Marxzell - near Stuttgart, Germany http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=790929 Also I liked staying at the Mummelsee Hotel high atop of the German Alpine Strasse. A great hotel with really great food! http://mummelsee.de/en/ You can see some pics of the B500 road and the Mummelsee Hotel in the first few pics in our Sella 1.0 tour... 1Addicts tour the Italian Alps: Sella 1.0 tour... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1033132 Also Berchtesgaden(Germany) Hitler's Eagle Nest or Zum Turken Hotel(& catacombs) or Slazburg, Austria are also great places to see. Near Salzburg is that famous Hallstatt, Austria - very picturesque. Well... hope this helps you out. Dackel

Thanks so much to Dackel and other posters with great ideas and information. This is why this forum is so special.
I will be researching these suggestions and plan a 9-day excursion after our two weeks in France and Switzerland. No matter what we do it will be great. I'd like to be doing another European Delivery but I haven't worn my car out yet! |
