IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship Long Beach
Auberlen just put the #25 car on the pole in GTLM! The 912 car is right on their heels though.
Auberlen BMW M6 GT3 #25 1:17.272 Bamber Porsche 911 RSR #912 1:17.275 Just 0.003 separates the top two in GTLM. Looks like it's going to be another tight race.

Well,
It didn't go to well for our beloved team. It was an exciting finish with the Corvettes imploding, with a little help from the other German competitor. Not really sure what happened to the 100 car at the end, but it was a mess. I saw it on the Hauler post race. |

#100 had a failed wheel. First a failed brake rotor at Daytona, and now a failed wheel at Long Beach. Rotten luck.
That late punt by #912 Porsche was straight up bullshit. Back to back races the Porsche team has pulled some really boneheaded decisions, and the Vettes have paid the price.

Just in case anyone is missing context. Here's Sebring where the #911 car decided that the inside line was exactly what he needed to make an awesome pass at turn 1... on slicks... in the wet.
And then this weekend, the #912 Porsche takes the "I'm a torpedo and I'm gonna sink your yellow submarine/Corvette" racing line. If you want to take the inside line you A) have to establish position before the corner, and B) have to hold your line; you can't just run wide/go straight in to other cars). Porsche's factory drivers are incredibly talented, but they have (apparently) given up caring about clean racing. And yes, I realize that lots of people will point out a long history of this crap from Porsche (2009 ALMS at Laguna Seca, anyone?), which is why they're simultaneously one of the most popular and most hated teams. The fact that they win a ton of races (even when they're not being shits) makes it easy for their fans to overlook this kind of garbage.

Cheap move by Porsche. I know a lot of people say penalize the race winning 911 but there's no way in knowing if the 912 did it purposely so that would set a really murky precedent.
I was there this weekend and I thought all the cars sounded amazing aside from the Ferraris. Very sad because they used to howl like no other, but now they're super quiet. Also now that the Ferraris and M6's are turbo they're both quiter which allows the Vettes and 911's to really stand out. Man, I never noticed how the 911's screamed until last weekend (I've been to a few races at LB). M6's sounded a lot better in person than I thought they would. I was rooting for them but they seemed to lack pace. |

Watched the first half of the race on the DVR last night. We've got family in town, so I've been getting roped in to all manner of shenanigans that isn't watching racing
I'm really struggling to believe that the Porsches are giving it 100% in qualifying. The #911 & #912 cars were up Auberlen's ass from the very start, and this is not a course that Auberlen is unfamiliar with. There has been a BMW on the podium at Long Beach for the last 7 years. Bamber was very close to Auberlen in qualifying, but you wouldn't believe it from the start of the race. The start looked more like the #911 & #912 cars were the top qualifiers, but were moved back in the field for penalty reasons. Really bizarre. It's the M6's first year in the series though, so hopefully BMW can get the car pinned down before too long
