Loaner Vehicles!?
For whatever reason, probably the teenager still inside me, i do get excited to see what kind of loaner vehicle i'm getting; Usually try to keep good relations with the sales folks and try to get hooked up with a dealer demo.
What are they giving out these days ? Anyone have any interesting loaners given? What's a reasonable ask to the sales manager after just purchasing an m3? I have the 1,000 mile service coming up and would love to grab a convertible for the weekend!, even in this weather! Anyone get hooked up with an M car or something cool lately? |

Be on the good side of your assigned Service Associate or Service Manager. The Client Advisors have nothing to do with loaners.
Each dealership orders whatever they like for loaners. Higher end dealerships that sell the $$$ cars have nicer cars than the ones that sell mostly 228i/320i. The car you get depends on availability and who else is requiring a loaner. I've had everything from rental loaners to 6 series, though I have never had or seen an M loaner. |

I just waited for the 1,200 mile service. It took less than 90 min. (including patching a flat tire).

The most interesting loaner I ever got from a BMW was an i3. Had a blast driving it for a couple days - a very different driving experience. Unfortunately, most of the time my dealer has no-line 320i's and 328'i's which have the same floaty and disconnected driving characteristics as a Toyota Camry.

They usually give me an X3 which isn't a bad ride. I wouldn't pay $50K for one though.

Nicest one I've seen was a 535i m sport. I myself have only had 328i variants.

F30 328i at BMW Seattle. Sorry but after driving an E90 335 followed by an M4....
Let's just say I was not impressed.

328 optioned out followed up by a 428GC with basically zero options. It's pretty amazing how cheap a non-optioned 4 series feels - no nav and the cluster looks like something out of a Civic.

Got a 428 GC for 2000 KM. My SA arranged for it when i dropped it off at the dealership. They were going to give me an X1 lol but i made this funny face and they must of figured ide rather something faster so my SA helped me out.
We'll see what I get this time, most likely an X1 :P |

i don't think they will ever give M's out as loaners. when i had my turbo recall done they were out of loaners so they rented me a new dodge ram 1500 v8 hemi from enterprise. I actually really liked the drive. it was a nice change up but damn does that thing suck on gas lol

I got a 528i once when they couldn't find my car keys when I returned to pick up my car. Sadly that has happened twice. I think the funnest loaner I had was a convertible mini. If that car had a bit more power it would have been truly fun. I got a 328i 'vert once for a couple of days which was a really pleasant experience. Due to those two cars I think I am going to try to lean to a 'vert for the next vehicle. 128i was a good change up once as well. Other than that just boring 3 series and now a lot of 320's...

They usually have given me a 328i as a loaner. I"ve gotten an x3 a couple times and last time I had my car in for service they gave me a 535i. I did get lucky one time and got a Z4M.

i usually get offered a 328i X-Drive and i generally say "anything but that!!" and get a 528 or an X1. The X1 is far better to drive than either the 328 or 528.....at least it's not floaty like the other two. Got a 228i a few times and it was just as floaty and boring as the 328.
my dealer is great with offering me loaners though....they never make excuses even though i'm out of warranty..... i do get excited to get loaners though....as it's always fun to drive somebody else's cars!!! |

Most of the times 316 d, I had the chance to try 318 GT with lux trim, boring as hell, practical large boot but on the ugly side the 4 series coupe make more sense.
I for sure learned that 3 series is far cheaper than the 5 F10, the trim and feel, a big difference that simply was not around between the E60 and E90. The worst was the 2 series tourer, it puzzle me why BMW bothered with this cat, the arm rest was constantly making noises as if BMW decided to save cash on one part that driver will be using constantly, mind blowing this car, and how they give up on the tradition of RWD only for a car like 2 series. |
