Fun car
OK so I hope I won't be banned for this. I'M LOOKING TO BUY THIS CAR FOR PERSONAL USE.
2001 Porsche 911 Carrera with tiptronic s and 60k miles. $19,000 asking price. Should I run away fast or sweet deal? From the pics (local bmw stealer) looks like garage queen.

Not sure why you'd get banned for this, but I think it goes without saying that the 996 isn't exactly the most desirable series out there. Why not a 997?

Did you have a mechanic check it out yet? That's a decent price if the car is in excellent/good mechanical shape.

I had a 2001 911, ok car. Never got past the headlights....WTF were they thinking. I love Porsche, I'd have another one but can't afford the one I want. Singer, just saying'. The price on the 996 is bottoming out, maybe a good deal, have your mechanic check the rear main seals.....and then beat the crap out of it. The reason I bought the Z4MC in part is that you can drive a 911 at the limit, adjust the classical music station and sip your latte without drama....I want to be engaged.....

Not the most desirable 996. By 2004 most of the issues were gone. Rear main seal is an expensive fix, and many cars in the early 996's had it. Only way I would buy a 996 is with a 6MT. Have the seal replaced and do the clutch at the same time. Will save you labor down the road...

I was considering a 996 too, but just make sure that the IMS bearing is replaced too, otherwise worst case scenario would be a new engine.

well don't want to be a downer...but as others have stated...996 with a manual would barely make the cut and withe 20k to play with there are many options to look at...if you don't mind the look of the 996 make sure the IMS has been done as mentioned and have fun!
