Car and Driver tests the Nissan GT-R....
I won't go into too much detail, but spoke to a contact of mine who works for Car and Driver and they just recently got done testing the Nissan GT-R and driving it up and around Reno, Nevada.
Bottom line, some like it, but many others felt the car was only great when driving it hard (track and/or canyon carving). Felt the car to be "boring" if it's not being pushed or as a daily driver. One or more even felt the exhaust note was annoying and preferred the exhaust note of even the 350Z over the GT-R's. You should see the full article in the coming month or two. Oh, and they got the 0-60 in 3.3 seconds, so with it's launch control, it is a monster off the line. |

3.3s is amazing. It seems like the sub 4 second range is the new sub 5 range. Amazing how fast the industry has advanced in just a few years.

Really, when I was driving this Ferrari F430 the other day, it was a total blast, and I didn't use a clutch. I've driven dozens of cars without a clutch and had a blast. Anyone who thinks the joy of driving is only about pushing in and out the third clutch pedal, doesn't know the joy of driving. I would suspect same person probably thinks they are a master in bed too, but their gf/wife would probably say differently. There's more to driving and driving enjoyment than just using a clutch. It would be like saying a night with Jessica Biel would be boring if you could do everything with her but can't touch her left breast. Trust me, I could have a BLAST with her without touching the left breast and it wouldn't be boring. Just like I can have a blast driving a fun car, without needing the left pedal. Now back onto topic. I'll have to drive the GT-R to see if I agree with my contact at Car and Driver. But preliminary thoughts are I would agree with him, since the outside looks don't stir my soul, and when I was sitting in and checking out the car at it's NA debut, it felt about as exciting as spending some time in a remodeled Altima. |

I heard that that Nissan tried very hard to make the car "impossible" to boost psi with a after-market chip. I think I read about it in a Car and Driver issue in October or November. So once a chip does come out for the car it should be damn expensive and the will HAUL ASS!

Why? Are their opinions the only ones that matter? Does Top Gear test the car in "everyday" driving? I only see them blasting the cars around a track and on an open airfield. In which case, as C&D (and most likely everyone else) said it's a blast. It's the "daily driving" aspect of the car that left some at C&D flat. I know what C&D meant though. I've driven a VW GTI that was a blast to drive in daily driving, same with a Miata and other cars. But I've also driven cars that are great on a track, but just don't do anything for me on a daily driving basis too. And I'm know it's that point that some at Car and Driver were feeling. |

Looks like an awesome performer "when pushed hard."
However, it doesn't exude the type of artful styling one would expect from an exotic. It looks like a computer generated baby transformer. |
