Cool...I knew they did a show on it and was waiting for it to show again. Yeah, why the Z4?...the 3-series would have been way more appropriate...in my opinion, the 3-series is BMW's signature series.

I was at the Performance Center the day they were shooting. Ed, the guy on the crutches and I, took a hot lap in an M5.

I just watched that and after moving down to NC, the whole time I was thinking I'll never buy a Z4 with those rednecks assembling the cars.
It would have been better if it was the factory in Germany, but it was still interesting.

Yes, that's what I've heard. I think that's good news.

I'm talking about the series that really made BMW famous with the general public (there's even a recent BMW commercial relating to this)...it's the 3-series.
Not talking about their ''top of the line signature car'' (7-series)...I can guarantee you it wasn't the 7-series that made BMW famous. Unless you're a President/diplomat/ambassador/etc of some country, a drug dealer, or a superstar rapper/athlete...they seem to like the 7. |

The factory is near Spartanburg SC. The word I received in Germany is that the X3 will go to SC and the Mini Coopers will go to the Austrian factory where the X3 is currently built. The demand for the Cooper is too high to maintain supply from the UK, exclusively. I did not hear that the Z4 will go back to Germany.

On the National Geographic channel (NGC) on TV, there is a new show called "ULTIMATE FACTORIES". First episode was of BMW Factory in Spartensburg. Great stuff ! Lots of informative info on how they build, They are replaying it this week or weekend (depends where in US) ... so check your local listings Second episode is Ferrari factory coming up .... ENJOY ! |
