Drove the new M3 today

Today my dad and I went down to Braman BMW to check out the new M3 they had there for the Breast Cancer fund. We got there and found tons of people on the waiting list and were happy to had made an appointment earlier. When the AW beast pulled up you would of thought Britney Spears was arriving. People swarmed around the thing like no other.

After waiting an hour to drive it we finally got behind the wheel. My dad drove because im not old enough to drive it(under 21). We were quite surprised when we saw nobody was going to go on the drive with us. I made sure M mode was engaged for the entire ride. We loved the exterior styling of the car, from the rear it looks plain mean. I loved the matte carbon interior trim and the I Drive knob was cool as well. We hit the M Mode button and we were off.

The M3 was a bit of a disappointment in the power department. We started off by giving it the gas in second around 50mph and were disappointed with the grunt of the car. Once you get over 6000RPM the exhaust is truly blissful. I LOVE the fat steering wheel they put in the car its perfect. My 335 honestly felt faster. Before going for a ride in the car I was ready to go order one, after going for a ride in the car I still want to order one but not nearly as much as a did prior to it. I felt it would have so much more power than it actually felt like. My dad agreed as well and thought it felt like it was laking power but was thrilled by the throttle response. The new M3 is a fantastic car IMO but wish it had more power.

400hp is enough power. lol general trend of cars: increase size of cars, increase size of engine, increase power output, minimal or no increase in mileage... lol m3 some 18mpg? gg.

I am having a problem with some of your comments, if you had of said the M3 didn't feel as strong as the 335i at 25~30mph in second then I would have agreed but starting at 50mph in second gear equals 6000rpm and at that point the M3 pulls like a bloody train and way faster than the 335i. This sounds like another one of those argument/debates about to start up once again.

The kid that went airborne in the M5 probably thought the same until the road ran out.

are you trying to call me immature or something? Sorry if im missing the point here but is there a problem with my comments? All im doing is sharing my experience. You guys can comment on what i said all you want but taking shots at my age is just plain stupid.

The M3 is for BMW enthusiast not 20 year olds? I'm sorry i didn't know there was an age requirement to be a "BMW Enthusiast"

You have an AA XEDE 335i, right? If so, then you definitely have way more TQ than the E92 M3...which is why your car felt faster than the M3. It's a nice sports car though. It's great that you got the oppotunity to test drive one, you lucky bast.!

Thanks for giving an honest review. That's cool that you got to go for a ride in one... I still haven't even seen one in person.

I don't think many 335 owner will switch to the new M3. Especially if they modded their 335.

I absolutely love the styling of the M3. God, if it had the N54 engine instead of that V8, I'd trade mine in. It would be perfect.

Maybe you felt that way since you were a passenger. I bet it would feel different if you drove.

Arent you supposed to be thrown back to your seat if you're the passenger instead of driver? If he wasnt impressed, then he would have probably been bored driving it. Straightline I mean. I'm sure it handles like a champ.

I'm talking about when you're a passenger as opposed to being the driver. Imagine you're letting someone drive your Z06. He steps on the gas. How do you as the passenger know he's about to do that? You dont. So you're thrown back if the car has balls or you're not.

Anyways, the car is beautiful. Dealerships are going to have a field day with these.

Look, everbody has different perceptions.

My buddy has an A4 2.0T with 200hp and when he drove the 335 he said "it didn't feel that fast". Weird, when the car has over 100hp difference, but what can you do.?...people are people.

Or maybe the OP as a modded 335, and then I am not surpised at all. The new M3 is not the fastest thing on the planet.

It's the same thing with the E46 M3. You can't really feel the torque but once it reaches certain speed, you'll be flying. A lot of cars dont "feel" fast but they "are" fast.

the torque on the M3 is very little, thus the reason why the car feels underpowered. I'd still take one though
