7 dead in east coast street race
Unreal,
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=4301114 "There were just bodies everywhere; it was horrible," said Crystal Gaines, 27, whose father was among the dead. Gaines said she grabbed her child but could not help her father, William Gaines Sr., 61. "He wasn't breathing, he wasn't moving," she said. "His body was in pieces." A white sedan hit people standing on the side of Route 210 around 3:40 a.m., -Excuse me miss Gaines, but WTF are you doing out at 3:40 am with your kid watching a street race? |

All you dumb shits out there take a lesson from this and take it to the track where it belongs! |

Good advice. But just to clarify, the cars that were racing didn't hit anyone. It was another car, apparently with its lights off, hit the crowd as they walked onto the street where the starting point was, obscured by the smoke from the tires.

True, but if there wasn't anybody racing to begin with 50 plus people wouldn't be in the middle of a 55MPH road at 3:30 AM.
If your racing and you kill yourself than fine, but more and more we are hearing about bystanders being affected by this stupidity. |

the police can't confirm that the lights were off and the person making that statement is the same dumbass lady who had a kid and a father with a broken leg with her to watch an illegal street race on a public highway at 3:40AM. Sorry if don't put a whole lot of faith in her statements.

true but if you're a bystander standing in the middle of a public highway at 3:40AM to watch 2 cars race then you have your own stupidity issues to deal with.

The cars that were racing did burnouts, and the smoke that it created prevented the incoming car from seeing the people.

No sympathy for them...they watched...encouraged...assumed the risk...and were excited by the law breakers...I wonder how concerned they would be if the racers hit someone minding there own business a mile down the road.

Of all the things you've said on this board, this made the most sense If i'm driving and i see a puff of smoke that blocked the entire road, i'm gonna slow down and see what's up. Not run through it like i do with yellow lights... The driver must've been intoxicated or lack a functional brain.

I read the story twice and I still don't know what happened
Shame...I mean we all participate in the occasional stop light grand prix, but this seems like layers upon layers of bad judgement by more than one person. Tragic! |

when you live the life, you die the death. yea, she can be there if she wants, but don't be suprised when some shit happens. she didn't only put herself at risk, but her little kid too. it's called parenting, and judging by the fact that her father was there with her too, stupidity must run in the family.
btw, i live no more than 20 mins from where this took place, but with the people that live here, i'm not suprised by any of this story. not the racing, the idiots on the road, or the other idiot that as you said barreled through the smoke when they should have been on the brakes. |

So 8 dead, including three ages 42, 33, and 61. Guess this shows you can't stereotype street racing as the activity of young kids.
This is a terrible event; but a stupid move by everyone... including the racers and the spectators.

second of all, if you're traveling the speed limit on the highway, which appears to be 55, you are traveling 80 feet a second. In a split second you've already hit the crowd you couldn't see and which had no business being there let's not forget and have had no time to react until it's too late and people are already dead. Again, who is going to think that there are going to be people standing in the middle of the highway at 3 in the morning? Think a little more before you make uneducated statements like that. The only person I feel sorry for is the poor guy who hit those people, he is the true victim here. Unless the facts change, he was traveling down the highway obeying the law and now has to live with outcome of an event caused by dumb fucks who didn't have enough sense to not stand in the middle of a road in the middle of night. |
