Good Friday at Nürburgring = STAU!
STAU! = Traffic Jam in German. Its not fun, as many ED'ers know. Its even less fun when it happens at the 'Ring. Good Friday = KarFreitag Quite a few Bimmerpost members have been asking me about how bad do the crowds get at the 'Ring. Well... today is about as bad as it gets. Other than when there is a race going on at the 'Ring(VLN, DTM, F1, etc...). Our friend: Dale Lomas from BtG was at the 'Ring today and has a great story on what its like - being at the 'Ring on such a busy day. Its totally nuts. Have a look. Dackel Dale's full story here... Photos and videos from another Kar Freitag http://bridgetogantry.com/2/index.ph...er-kar-freitag and the best for last...

That traffic is bonkers! I suppose it's worth it to get to the RING.

So many crashes in that section of the track.
Im really curious about how many cars are allowed on the track per session? Ive seen too many videos of similar stuff. Elevation changes, off camber turns, lack of experience, rough inputs is a recipe for disaster ...

Totally is. How about the frustrated driver kicking the sides of his car after crashing. Must be the cars's fault...
The crew must have been busy cleaning up the track today....

I don't feel safe sharing the roads with 99.9% of the idiots out there while doing the speed limit. I can't imagine how bad it is sharing it with those same idiots on a race track. Wow.
So how does it work with the VW hitting the Vette? Any liability to the VW owner, or is it a "run the track at your own risk" kind of thing? As usual, thanks for the great contributions Dackelone. |

This pic was even more unreal. The "overflow" parking lot across from the main TF entrance at 7AM(Friday)!!!
PS: Just think... at next weekend's VLN race(and every other race or TF event at the 'Ring this year) the new 'Ring management will be charging six euros PER car for parking. $$$$$

Just today Dale Lomas posted that the track was completely open for TF(Tourist Fahrt) and he only saw ONE other car while driving laps in his new M5 'Ring Taxi. For only 100 euros pp, you might also consider doing that. Especially IF it is crowed for some reason. Weekends are always the worse. Best are work days/evenings. The sunsets around 7:30pm now a days, Each day later and later. Usually by mid summer its still light until 9:30pm. Dackel

Well... No. The problem is as your hurtling towards the first LEFT(90+ mph), then braking to 40 mph), your going DOWN a hill and then UP a hill, thru some twisties, then track looks like it goes to the RIGHT, the way the tree line is cut(but its only an track access point) the track goes LEFT, and its really off camber, so MANY cars just plow(understeer) right off the grass. Many hit the curbs on the right while trying to stay on the pavement. I had a friend blow BOTH right side tires of our rental car on these curbs. IF you survive the entry... the exit as the S-turn hooks right is also evil in its off cambers. I've seen many an old school 911 Turbos end up crashed back end first into the armco guard rails! lol
You really need to respect this track. Especially in the rain and cold weather. The curbs are really slick and the off cambers are pure evil. That's what makes the 'Ring so great though! Dackel
