Ferrari 488 GTB goes turbo.
Replaces the outgoing 458. Another great looking car from Ferrari.

I like the back, not sure about the front. Side air intakes interesting looking.
A random photoshop I did at the request of a friend ![]()

I'm torn here.
I used to always love ferrari more than lamborghini. But the huracan is absolutely incredible IMO. Here, the new car just looks to be a speciale of the 458 speciale... And it doesn't look any better. I loved the F430 when it came out and I still think I prefer it to any of the 458's and now this. The massive front intake just kills it for me, like the non Msport BMW's and the gaping center intake. Also, what exactly is the "mandate" regarding emissions? I thought it was a fine if they aren't above a certain level as a manufacturer. Can't ferrari continue with NA engines which might miss the mark for emissions, but simply pass that on as a percentage of the cars cost? I'm not saying this won't be an insanely fast car, or that it wound sound good because I know it will. Also, how much more efficient is this engine over its V8 NA predecessor? Is it really enough to prevent this emission fine anyway? I'd get the huracan over this or the 458. And I can't believe I'm saying that. I also don't understand how they ditched the naming scheme for these cars. But I guess bmw did as well when displacement goes down you don't want to advertise a smaller number on the badge! |

458 is ugly IMO. This one, I really like the rear, but the front is:
1. ugly 2. looks like Lambo 3. does not fit with the rest. Overall the car is a 458 facelift with V8 from Quattroporte and California. Interior is ugly as usually. I'd take the new NSX over this. |

Ferrari has deviated from their own naming conventions many times in recent years (decades). The Enzo and LaFerrari come to mind but the 599 also defied previous naming conventions.

Well, the fate for NA engines have been confined to the grave for a while.
But now it has officially materialized, RIP. 8000RPM is not bad for a turbo V8 though & Ferrari turbo V8s have traditionally sounded quite sweet so hoping for the best here. EDIT: As for the name, it took a little thinking, but it all makes sense now. In the past Ferrari sometimes used displacement per cylinder in its nomenclature. The 250 GTO was a 3.0L V12. 3000cc/12cyl = 250cc The 488 is a 3.9L V8 3900cc/8cyl = 487.5, round up and you get 488 ![]()

I've driven a McLaren 650S and it sounded VERY good. No, not as good as the NA 458, but still VERY good.

The rear looks smoother, slightly F12-ish, which is a good thing. Faster than a speciale too?! This is a home run for the lucky boys that can afford one of these.
That black photoshop above looks serious! |

So beautiful but I hope it doesn't sell and that the Huracan does. It's the only chance for the NA engine to survive. And I'm sorry, F40 in all it's glory but a Ferrari ain't a Ferrari without that signature NA sound IMO. Whenever I see one I roll down the windows, turn off the hifi and listen, goose bumps every time. One of the best things in motoring for sure and now dead. We all knew it would come but it's really, really sad. Really.

http://blog.caranddriver.com/ferrari...future-engine/ Much as Formula 1 has introduced turbos and hybrid power, Ferrari says those technologies are the only ways it can meet emissions laws while increasing performance. There are no plans to combine forced-induction with hybridization, however; V-8s will get pressurized, but since Dini says the V-12s would require four turbos, they’d get too large and radiate too much heat. Instead, they’ll get their boost from lithium-ion batteries and electric motors. |

But alas, is is the end of NA engines because of emissions regulations. Eventually turbocharged engines will die and cars will be all electric. Then there will be no noise at all. Like the poster above, I love the sound of NA Ferraris, I always turn off my music and roll my windows down to hear it. Gives me chills. |
