Hey, if i were to buy the 135i would i still be able to talk in here? lol ive just been reading arround here and yall dont take well to people that drive other vehicals... (like that guy that drives that jag haha) i just need to start some investments and i dont think its right for me to buy an m3 just yet... but soon. i just think it would be easier to pay off a 1 series with no payments then within a year trade it in and get the m3. what do u all think? besides i think that 1 seriers may have more potential than the m3. if ur going to track it that is....
let me know what yall think. ur opinion means alot to me in this decision since ur the only peeps i know that own bmw's. |

Why does everyone think the 1-series will be a killer track car? Some people think it will be more than an M3.
I just don't get it. It isn't the lightweight track demon everyone was expecting. Do people realize that?

135i is a great car but as stated its not the track demon that people tend to think it is.

The car is light for todays standards of cars. The new m3 is heavier and many cars in that range are just as heavy if not heavier. No the car is no lotus, but it comes with sick brakes and is not really heavy for today's cars. Throw some lsd and some suspension, maybe a tune and you have one heck of a track car.

The 135i needs to lose a hell of a lot of weight before it's a "killer track car". It has the foundations, it's just being held back by all that heft. That's what the Tii is going to be, I guarantee it. I think BMW did this on purpose.
From what I hear, the thing understeers like it's awd or something. A stiffer rear suspension might cure that. Regardless, the thing still needs a lot of work before it can be considered a serious track car.

I dont see how it has to lose alot of heft when you have cars like the newer m3 or the last generation m3 that are heavier, that make good track cars. I would say lsd and stiffer suspension would make that car an awesome track car.

Judging that you listed tracking as a high priority to buy the 1 series, I suggest the latter approach.
