PTO

I rarely take time off. HR just notified me that I must use 11 days before end of year. Use it or lose it!

What to do, what to do

Same here, at least your company's HR notifies you. My HR group doesn't communicate well. Last year lost 8 days. Never again.

Take it off, but sneak back into work ala Sheldon from Big Bang Theory?

Why is this a dilemma? Take it off, go on a road trip. Or sit on the porch with beer for 11 days...I don't know.

Take time off. Problem solved.

I always take the week between xmas and new years off to burn days.

My problem is, no one takes on my workload when I’m out. I take one day off and I have to play catch up for two days and sort through 400 emails. It’s a pain in the ass!

I've got about 4 days I need to soak up. I have a week I'm using in December to go home for the holidays, but that's it right now.

Use it!! Worry about catching up on work during Q1. For now, take advantage of what you've earned. Take it all at once

Take 11 days all at once - eventually...probably around day 6 or 7, someone will finally step up and start your work because they'll need to in order to function. If you only take a day or two off, no one is going to do a transition plan because what would be the point.

Trick is to take off for a longer period of time - force people to survive.

Just cash it out. Your last paycheck of the year will have 11 extra days of pay added to it.

Perhaps you need to familarize yourself with how a "use it or lose it" PTO policy works.

It implicitly means no pay-outs or rollovers.

Yeah, unfortunately I have no pay out options. I'm taking Joekerrs advice and disappearing for 11 days.

Take 11 days off, use 3 for Vegas and all the rest relaxing at home. Problem solved.

Oh...and if they give you grief about taking 11 days, just tell them its mandatory by HR, and if they want you to take a shorter time, tell them you'll require HR to email you permission to roll forward the unused days into the following year.

That's if you want to be generous. That way, one way or another, they cave. Either they agree to the 11 days, or they agree to roll your days into the following year.

Everybody likes the way I think sir.

Except TXSTYLE perhaps...I don't think he understands the humour in sarcasm, nor is he able to identify sarcasm when it is clearly presented in a post. I'm not certain he's ever smiled at anything posted on this forum...certainly none of my posts!

Not to mention that most organizations if they pay you out it's taxed as other income at a higher rate. I leave nothing behind and for the most part of the year am negative as far as PTO goes, STA(our version of sick days) I leave a few behind unfortunately on a consistent basis.
Take the 11 days plain and simple.
