Cool

Gdamn I've only seen a red one of this FT-1 concept. Looks even hotter in a better color! Spotted this on FT1club

http://www.ft1club.com/forums/showth...EMA-Show-(Pics)

Anyone know what the BMW equivalent of this shared car platform will be?

Were they discussing pricing this around 60k? I find that ridiculously hard to believe. The cockpit design ticks all the right boxes for me. Not sure about those 21 inch wheels from a performance standpoint though. That's really big.

It is a concept car, so production car won't be so. FT-86 to GT86 should be a good indicator of changes from concept to production.

One of the best/fresh designs in the last few years. Let's hope they can materialize it into production.

This is great and all and I wish I could care, but until I see it or something very similar to it (in EVERY way) in production, it's just another hype vehicle that will probably measure up in performance about as well as the FT86/FR-S/BRZ.

I find the car to just be staggering both outside and in; one of the best designs I've seen for years. If they make it, and knowing Toyota they won't, and IF the driving dynamics equal the style, I'd be the first in line.

The front is a bit too much for me. The back is good but not great. This car shines in its proportions, side profile, and the way it stands

Better make sure it drives better than a typical Toyota before you place an order.

If the GT-86 is any indication, this car will make anything from germany (other than the Carrera/Cayman S) feel like a mustang. Why would you even make a comment like that based on what I see in your sig?

Lol I don't think I'll be placing an order. I hope this will be a proper contender against cars like the M4, Cayman GTS, upcoming C63, etc. It would be even better if this will compete against the GT-R but I highly doubt that (especially that the next GT-R will be a hybrid. We know what hybrids can do in a high performance scenario.)

I love what Toyota has done with the FT-1. I think it gives them a great sports car entry with Honda working on the new gen NSX. Interior on it looks like it will have some grave changes before it's ever released, though. All in all, I say good job Toyota for making something that has some curb appeal.

I am yet to drive a Toyota that is exciting to drive. May be this car will be better, who knows. If you know, go put a deposit on it.

Stunning design, excellent execution... gorgeous concept. Sadly will never happen. Toyota instead will elect to build another body kit for its 2016 Corolla instead.

Toyota hasn't built an exciting car for the US market since 1998 (Supra). The saddest part is that they've come up with some of the most amazing concepts over the last several years but they all end up in the same place... nowhere.

Where did the M1 Hommage end up? Or the CS Concept? Or go back in time, the M8? Same can be said about BMW, since last M3 CSL...

Anyway the answer to both is "economic downturn". Honda HSV also ended up nowhere, although it was a "direct" successor of NSX with NA V10 and AWD in final testing phase.

Love that second photo, that's the LC-FA concept right? Think I have the letters wrong tho.

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG and Toyota Motor Corp. are moving closer to putting jointly developed sports cars on the road.

Cooperation on the underpinnings of the vehicles “has moved on to the concept phase and is running according to plan,” Munich-based BMW said in a statement to Bloomberg News. A technical feasibility study that began in January 2013 has been “successfully completed.”

The midsize model is the most visible project within a broader partnership the manufacturers have said will last until at least 2020. The two companies have been tight-lipped about details, including the targeted introduction date, after announcing the plan early last year. Toyota today confirmed that the project has moved beyond the feasibility stage, which was initially due to be completed by the end of 2013.

Toyota, the world’s largest automaker, needs sports cars “to put that energy back into the brand,” Europe Executive Vice President Karl Schlicht said last month at the Paris Motor Show when asked about the cooperation with BMW, which this year started selling the racy $135,700 i8 plug-in hybrid.

In January, Toyota showed the FT-1 coupe concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The company said the rear-wheel-drive sports car’s design drew from past models including the Supra, 2000GT and Celica.

In addition to the sports car, Toyota and the world’s biggest maker of luxury vehicles are cooperating on research into fuel cells, lightweight technology and lithium-air batteries. The two companies agreed to work together on lithium-ion batteries in 2012. Both companies declined to comment further on the new sports cars.

Automakers tend to look for partners to limit costs of developing new technology and small-scale vehicles. Other tie-ups include Daimler AG’s cooperation with the Renault SA-Nissan Motor Co. alliance, which has been gradually expanding beyond projects such as new versions of Daimler’s urban Smart cars and Renault’s Twingo subcompact.

One could argue that the i8 took many cues from the M1. I also don't know that they ever intended to produce that car.

My main point is that while BMW may not have a supercar to compete with the LF-A, they do have a long list of other performance vehicles in just about every market sector.
