Flash in the Pan
Matte paint color, Blacked out Chrome, Blacked out wheels.
Of course I'm in my 50's and that seems for the most part to be the dividing point, but really believe those 3 accents are a "Flash in the Pan" that will have sudden and brief success into the future like Vanilla Ice. Your thoughts....

Anyway, disagree on the long term impact of these trends. Matte paint is/will always be a small niche area due to the increased difficulty of maintaining it (particularly in places with snow, salt, etc). But it distinguishes a car and will be an option for some time yet. Black wheels and black accents really depend on the car. Doesn't work with every car, but it works with some. Over time, what is considered 'normal' or 'good looking' changes. The once-standard fins of the 50s are gone as are lots of other once-standard designs. The prevalence of chrome as the overwhelming or only accent of choice (wheels, trim, etc) may be passing its apex. In the modern world, cars are much easier to individualize and I think the long term trend will be for more, not less, in the way of efforts to distinguish. Today it is with black accents or matte paint. Tomorrow, could be something else - but that doesn't mean that black and matte will go away or that chrome will return as the only or dominant option.

The style in general has changes as have people's taste. When I look at the 2 19inch wheel options, the silver one looks like its missing something...

Not asking if anybody likes it, I happen to like some of the colors, finishes, vinyls, wraps etc. but just asking for comment on your thoughts of whether it will last, why or why not. YOUR car speaks for itself as to what one likes that's for sure.

I'm in my 50's and I have black wheels and have de-chromed my M4. I think chrome is a bit old hat. I am sure you will see it less and less on cars.

I'm pretty happy with my blacked out chrome and flat wrap (clear-bra) and also happy to have something a bit different. Makes me love my car a lot more and that's what counts (to me anyway) |

I'm not a fan of total blackouts. The end product ends up looking like a car that's come out of the body shop with parts missing.

Disagree...I don't think they're for everyone. I personally love the blacked out chrome look on my M4 I feel it makes the car look much more aggressive and sporty which goes along with the whole idea of having a sports car. Never was a big fan of the matte black look but it does look great on some cars especially matte colors besides black. And as for the black wheels I have the black ones that came on this car and I went aftermarket wheels on my E92 and went with black ones. I do feel the look is starting to get played out now but to each their own...when I get aftermarket wheels this time around they won't be black

Personally I hate real chrome. I think it looks dated and "blingy." I have a 97 Harley Sportster completely covered in chrome and I'm so tempted to black it out its not even funny. Trouble is, it cost me about $3700, and I know for a fact all those little parts are gonna add up in a hurry! I will always order "shadowline" or something of the sort because I hate the chrome window strips and grill accents with a passion (the window strips in particular) and on my old Cherokee I vinyl wrapped them satin black.
I don't particularly think I would ever get a matte finish, but they can be cool in certain situations. That's probably the most likely of the 3 to be a "flash in the pan." Black wheels I think look great on certain cars. I went with the half blacks on my m3 and I think they are a great pairing with Sakhir Orange, especially since the car comes with mostly black accents anyway (which is a huge plus in my opinion). I'm 27, and when I think there was a time and a place for chrome accents, its pretty much gone. I think the fact that Buick and Chrysler and Ford (the trucks especially, stop chroming the trucks!) throw chrome and fake plastic chrome on literally every inch of their cars really started to detract from the coolness of it for me. Down with chrome, in with shadowline. I'm not for "blacking out" everything, but within reason I think it looks better. I will definitely get the gloss black grill inserts upfront, those should have been black like all the other accents from the get go!

Truth! I think anything chrome looking will always be out of style from here on out. It's just the first thing that everyone looks to replace no matter what color car you have. Chrome just doesn't look good on anything.

Sorry guys, but chrome is not going away. I read recently that China is now a bigger luxury car market than the US. Car manufacturers now design cars with that market in mind instead of American tastes. And guess what? The Chinese love chrome.

Looks really clean you could have told me it was an individual matte color and I would have believed you. For me, blacked out parts are here to stay.
To the OP, I hate chrome and love black wheels and black accents but that's a personal thing. I like to think of black kidney, black side gille, black logo and matching reflectors, tint... as Phase 1 exterior mod, Phase 2 being Carbon fiber parts like spoiler, lip etc and Phase 3 would be a wrap
