Few buddies of mine want to move to US and asked me this question about business ideas and investment opportunities (perhaps in existing business or startups) So far I haven't personally met many people that know what to do with cash and just keep it in banks or some low yeild securities

5 mil on property. The way property is growing in value in nyc especially Brooklyn. You can make a healthy profit in just a few years.

Wife works for a guy that is a property manager. Bought a bunch of buildings around Brooklyn in the 90s and early 2000s. Sold most of it and tripled his money in a decade. Most of these were finance so he repaid the financing and still made 150% if not more.

A lot of things can be made and sold. But one thing you cant make more of, is land.

Not true. We in HK fill land and make more land from the sea. That land is then worth a shit load, hence you can actually make more land lol.

You are not making more you are just moving a higher elevation of land to fill a lower elevation submerged by water.... So no you can not make more land.

i think i saw something about hundreds of buildings being built and bought by investors only to sit empty like ghost towns. is that true?

Property in Austin, TX is skyrocketing. And we were one of the few places untouched by the last housing market collapse.

I had to fight off 9 other potential lessees for my current house, and I am 20miles North of downtown.

Don't need to live in the area to invest in property. Just hire a management company that takes a small amount of the profits then raise the rent prices by that amount to make sure you cover it.

HK does mean Hong Kong in China. I'm guessing you have no idea what Hong Kong is either. Ghost towns in hk? Yeah I wish. Wouldn't be the most expensive place to live if we had ghost towns. Btw China's pretty big too, might wanna wiki about that and see what's up.

I personally invest in real estate, the stock market and startups. Startups are the most risky but they can really payoff in the end.

You and I differ greatly on the definition of the word land. We do not move higher elevation of land, we use garbage to fill the sea and create more land. One of hk's most recent landfill turned residential area named "Tseung Kwan O" is a great example that populates roughly 370k people. Although the place stinks a bit, it's still quite expensive.

Regarding your question. When we say "we in HK" we actually just mean "we in HK" as the majority of people here still do not feel we are part of China. HK is a special administrative region which was a British colony before 1997. So ghost towns in China? Yes. Ghost towns in HK, no.
