How do we feel about the badge by the C pillar on the G60?

Bland. Needs some Swarovski crystals and glow in the dark jewel effect - it’s a business sedan.

Doesn’t bother me. Might change my mind after seeing it in person.

I mentioned it in another post, but in my opinion it looks tacky and cheap. 5er is about elegance and this screams the opposite for me. I know debadging is common in Germany (it's even on the online configurator), but this smacks a huge "5" on both sides and it loses a lot of class as a result.

Don't like it. Feels tacky.

Instead I think they should focus on improving the fonts instead. Sometimes I can't differentiate a 525i, 528i 530i 535i etc. The numbers are too squashed together vertically, making it hard to read from a distance. 5 looks like a 0, 3 or 8.🤔

It looks as tacky and cheap as the X7 interior LED strip with the X7 on the dash….

Beating a dead horse here, said this a few times in multiple threads.

They destroyed the iconic hofmeister kink for a tacky label. Some may say it’s still there but it’s where the window trim meets the metal body work.

And the 2024 MB E-class, same flowing line that’s on many of their cars including C, it’s a design aesthetic in different adoption, you don’t mess with certain things.

I don't think slapping the badge on the kink was an end goal at all, more like an afterthought probably. Displacing the kink from the door to the body and making it extra thick in the first place was surely an end goal though, in order to visually extend the glasshouse towards the rear and cut through that C-pillar that grows thicker as cars grow bigger. This also helps visually maintain rearward cabin proportions.
The window trim getting much thicker as it loops around the kink also makes the window surround look more 3D, as if outlined by one single paintbrush stroke with an accentuation at the apex.
The 5er thus adopts a similar solution to the 3er and 7er before it.

Perhaps the badge imprint on the 5er helps dress that thick end piece which looks a bit stubby, especially in its bright version:

All in all I think the kink should have been left pure of any badge, because it's a design icon per se and the badge makes it look like something that can be easily played around with. Hopefully it won't spread to future models.

Would be better without this "trim". I am waiting for the touring, so hopefully its not there on that car.

This may be the time to not get shadowline btw. The amount of scratchy plastic is getting completly out of hand. My prefered spec would be non m sport with silver trim.

The "5 badge" is horribly scratched on several of the demo cars i saw in videos. B pillar can be ppf'd cheaply. But this 5 probably makes it harder, more expensive. The M front bumper is also way to much piano black flat surfaces.. Absolute horror if you care about your cars appearance. One contact wash and it needs to be machine polished.. Bad, bad, bad design.

As others have said, tacky
Imho they have mess up the hofmeisyer kink here, it now visually juts out.
The number 5 is unnecessary. Given the way thei designed are going, surprised they didn’t illuminate it!

Hopefully not a new design feature that will feature on new models going forward

Surely that’s what the model number on the back is for?

Honestly, the design of this car is all over the place

I'm sure there will be aftermarket trim replacements that removes the 5 mark. I'll be the first to buy it.

Actually that '5' on the kink is going to be illuminated in certain markets such as China:

In the end it seems like the model series imprint on the kink may well be carried over to all future models: numbers 1 to 8 on core models, and I'd assume X on all X models and perhaps ///M on all real ///M models.

That's under intense studio lighting and likely after people had their greasy hands wander all around, but it makes you wonder how the lower body gloss black plastic pieces (front fascia, rocker panels, rear diffusor) will withstand dust, weather, stone chipping, etc.

Looks that way..... the XM has it... I wonder if the debadge option code will remove it? It's a bit much, IMO.

If this is plastic ( not clear from photos) this will be subject to swirls if not washed properly

Why have they also put a 5 on the b pillar as well?

Oh bmw , what have you done….

I don't like it because it's a large piece of black plastic and will age differently than the rest of the body work that it's next to. Black plastic around windows and such blends in when kept to a framework design. But when you extend it out to its own design piece like they did here, I just worry about long-term durability & looks of it.

Also, unnecessary. Nobody knows or cares what the '5' stands for. Audi also makes 5 series cars (A5, R5, S5), so it's not even a very good differentiator for your brand efforts.

That may precisely be one of the reasons for the new H-kink badge. Actually many newbies are already able to recognize a BMW but wouldn't know the model or how you should pronounce it, even when reading the rear badge (e.g. are a "five hundred forty" and a "five hundred thirty" even the same model to begin with?). Hence also why BMW has recently made the model series number a bigger font than the engine designation:

The designer explained they did that to trick the eye because of the added floor. He said had they left it would have looked like a brick. Lazy design and cost cutting. Look at Porsche
