It’s sleek, powerful and has impressive range.
lol, let us know when you wake up from that dream. EV’s are disposable junk. Yes I drove the i4, it’s an appliance.

Well, yes my 2014 911S was fantastic and probably not much compares but you’re not talking in the same ballpark.
Overall I thought the i4 handled pretty well. To a lot of people straight line performance does =fun. I do agree that taking an exit ramp at 70 mph is lots of fun but limited as my wife screams when I do it. I go back to my dad’s 68 GTO, that I learned to drive, lots of fun but all those old cars had shitty handling on shitty tires but that’s what they had back then. And also the car got shitty mileage so the range wasn’t any better than an i4. My dad used that car as his daily driver.

Agreed, nothing compares to the roar of a good engine but how many do they sell of those types of cars? The future is a coming, I won’t be around to see it all and boy I don’t miss going to a gas station.

Enjoy the 992 , great car.

Do you own an EV?

Indeed. And if we are honest, straight-line accelleration (which is really only great in the most-powerful EVs) is not really what driving is about anyways.

Managing a metaphorical cruise ship on a snaky back road is not what I envision when I think of "fun to drive."

I think it is also important to remember than there are many people on these forums who really don't care much about driving. BMW like any other premium brand also attracts people with money who want to flaunt their money or give the appearance of having money.

There is literally a guy on this thread describing ICE engines like they are some kind of disease. Just ponder that for a moment.

Well that does it for me, I am going to be taking my EV back to BMW tomorrow and demand a trade in on an ICE vehicle. Seriously, we get it, you are not a fan of EVs, but I don't think your rants and insults are going to convince anyone here that has one to go in a different direction.

The real question is if EVs survive long enough to reach your mile marker.
10+ years? What?

iX is lighter than X5 hybrid.
Tesla Model 3 is lighter than ICE 3 series.
Neu Klasse is targeting the weight of ICE 3 series as well. And it's coming next year.

Also, BMW has 2 EVs that have been in market for 3 years; iX and i4. Both of them are holding their values as well as their ICE counterparts. (M440i and X5 M50i)
Not 10 years from now. Today.

No, it's an established fact that Lucids have been very unreliable.

So people who own a BMW only want to flaunt or give the appearance of having money?
Pretty ridiculous, sure there are people that fit that bill but not everyone. Do you own an EV or BMW?

They happen to make pretty solid cars, I bought a Ford Mach E. Cheaper than a BMW or Porsche but the ride is pretty terrible in comparison and in my opinion a mistake I shouldn’t have made.

What car would you recommend people buy if they don’t want to flaunt their money? What commoner car would you recommend that rides as nice or handles as well overall, just curious.

That isn't what I wrote. When we are less emotional, we can focus on the tasks at hand. Perhaps a reread is in order?

How do you think they do that? They give you less car to offset the weight and cost of the battery.

Model 3 is a cheap sparse experience compared to an ICE 3 Series. NK looks to be doing the same. i5 is a big step down from previous 5. The trend is undeniable.

I did miss read and am not emotional at all. I was confusing two didn’t comments. Too old to get emotional about cars on a Forum anyway.

Next time I won’t read on my I phone.

Let me introduce to the f31 I had. I called it the “blender,” because that’s the sound it made when I pressed the gas. And it was slow. Boring. The only thing it had going for it was that it was a wagon. Drivetrain, steering, noises, 20-25 mpg - maybe. Boring.

It's funny how, in every ev post that makes the front page, all the pearl clutchers come in trying to make sure you know how much they dont like evs - as if acknowledging their benefits somehow makes ice car owners look bad. Chill lol.

I've only driven v8's for the past 15 years, including on the autobahn, but the i4 m50 i bought 1 year and 23k miles ago is my favorite car i've owned by far. Effortless power, havent been to a gas station in months, and its so cool when your only indication of speed isnt engine noise, but instead the increasing roar of wind noise. So cool, super fun to drive.

But if you like ice cars, nobody here is judging you ffs

The only reason for that is when people pretend there are no drawbacks to EVs, that they are saving the planet, and that they fit everyone’s needs. None of which are true.

I don’t dislike EVs, I think they make great daily drivers for many people. I also think, or rather know, that they are the future and we will all be driving them at some point. I also know they are not the present for most people, and adoption would not be anywhere near as high if it were not for subsidies and the threat of future sales target mandates.

There are significant challenges to overcome before widespread adoption is practical. Can we at least agree on that?

Other than that it has ZERO appeal to me.

As a daily driver my M3 is more spacious and more comfortable and obviously handles and feels better.

On bumpy roads M3 is a 7.9 ride quality

The i4 a 6.0 on bumpy roads

I was surprised my M3 was more compliant and felt solid compared to the heavy I4

Forget the aggravation of an EV.

The I4 did not appeal to me.

The suspension felt like it had 15 inch rims with 60 PSI on cut springs in some circumstances

I’ve also driven newer 2020 540i that’s a really nice car. Would take that over i4
Yikes. I thought the i4 had decent EV ride quality. If the i4 is a 6.0, then a Model 3 is a 1.5

Absolutely!

Definitely not ready for "everyone" and there is still a ton of infrastructure that needs to be worked out before it could even come close to replacing gas cars en masse.

For me, i just like the effortless power that's always ready to go.

The i4 is certainly more comfortable than the g80. I use an i4 for daily commuting and I also have a g80 and f90. Tesla model 3 is way down the list.

Coming from an i4M50 to the new i5M60 I am surprised that despite its size and weight increase as well as a little bit more power and torque the i5 is actually easier on fuel and so far it’s returning an impressive 2.9-3.0Miles per KW or approximately 13% better than my i4.

Even on a long journey at a steady 70-75mph it returned 2.9m/KW.

What exactly have BMW changed?
