Unusual warning light i5 eD40

Over the last week or so, at this one particular intersection inn the left turn lane, when I come to a stop for the red traffic light I have been getting this warning light in the center of the cockpit dashboard- it is a red car in profile (i.e. not the usual car too close straight-on view), and it lasts only for a moment. I can be stopped at the light with no other car in front of me, it happens intermittently, and only at this one intersection. Can anyone enlighten me as to what is going on? I have had this car since February, and have a little over 5000 miles on it, it only recently started doing this.

Maybe it is sensing the cross traffic passing in front of you, warning of a cross collision?

Certainly possible; I now remember I had a 540i a few years back that would always activate the collision avoidance brakes at this one particular spot on the road, and only in the evening. Some sort of sensor gremlin rearing its head??

There is a setting in there somewhere that lets you set the sensitivity of that system. I set mine so that it would not go off so often. Look through the menu system for driver assistance and you can probably find it. I think the setting options for it were something like far, medium, and close - or something like that.

I believe it's Early, Medium, and Later. Something like that. I saw it on one of the U-tube videos

You are correct! I found my original post about the incident I had during my first two weeks of driving my car. You can find that here if interested.

https://g60.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2093484

Since that time, and after I set it to the "Late" setting, I have not had any major issues with the system, so I feel much more confident in using it and no longer turn it off every time I get in the car.

Pro-tip to the new drivers - the Early setting is way too sensitive! On that setting, it would warn me as I drove by parked cars on a street that had a gradual left bend in it. The car thought I was going to crash into the parked cars at the curb as I would drive on that street.
