I'm in that camp myself. The fact that we don't even get the 2 liter 530 ix is a no go for me.

What I’ve seen is the luxury seat option is the multi-contour seats with the upper back adjustment. Hadn’t noticed the headrest change if it’s there. I have it on my G30 comfort seats but leave it flat.

Edit…found this on the i5 40 option list. I guess it’s still called multi function seats not luxury seats but it specifies upper backrest adjustment and you can see that on the image for the switches.

Well here is the image of the seat with the luxury seating package. You can see that at the seat back there is no gap for the seat back to move independently and the headrest definitely don’t look like they fold.
Second and third pics are from a F10 for reference.

Not sure I’d trust those images over the stated list of features. Images aren’t always correct.

It’s not an image. I took a screenshot of what the configurator looked like. Besides in all the videoes I have seen on YouTube not one of them has those .

Watch this video from 14:25 to 15:10 and you will get your answer.

Those seats aren’t the multi contour seats and you can tell by the lack of adjustment buttons. I have the multi contour seats on my G30 so I’m well aware of what they are. Early or preproduction may be missing some features, nothing new there. But the feature IS available and so stated, only in black or copper as of now. The ordering guide states “SOP 11/23” as first availability.

The seat color options suck. No tan? Why? And the dark brown has an odd gray contrast. Just make a straight brown interior.

Maybe it will look better in person and maybe colors and interiors will get better with the M560e and the M5. But for now, I’m just completely unimpressed with the apparent lack of effort in the aesthetics of this car.

If you told me to go spend $100k or less on a sedan in this class, I think I’d have to buy a Cadillac right now. There’s just something about Audi that I can get into.

I’m with you, NGT. Maybe it will look better in person. I did see a new 7 series yesterday and really liked the back (the front still reminds me of farm equipment or something; definitely not a BMW).

But, the options and colors are going to have to improve. Meanwhile, looks like a lease extension and possible purchase of my 2021 M550–which is by far the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Wish I could have just gotten another.

Agree with you on leather options. My G30 has mocha nappa against Med blue, same as the early press cars. Great looking combo but I wasn’t sure about brown at first. The copper/grey is just off to me… I really want Silverstone but with multi contour seats, not currently an option. So I’ll wait and see if it becomes available. Definitely no black seats.

For those that want more comfort seat color options we could flood BMW USA’s Facebook page with posts asking to add Silverstone. I’ve seen them respond periodically to people.

They definitely need either Silverstone/Ivory/Smoke White merino. Personally, I think they need a tan also. Even tartufo would be fine, though something like caramel or cognac would be better.

The X5 has 4 color choices for multi contour seats…ivory, coffee, black, and tartufo. The 5/i5 should have the same, maybe it’s just a matter of time until they offer it post-launch. Always really liked tartufo.

Just found the early price lists for G30. It started production Nov 2016.
The March 2017 price list had 3 Nappa color choices - Ivory, Black or Mocha.
The 2018 price list effective July 2017 (so only about 9 months post launch) added Caramel/Black, Smoke White/Black, or Tartufo full merino Individual leather options.
If they follow a similar timing to add more Nappa colors (or even Merino leather) on the G60, that will suit me fine but may not be soon enough for others.

They also removed those merino choices for the LCI in 2021. I’m just not optimistic.

Was not aware of that, but could have been covid supply chain issues. OTOH, if they add Silverstone or Tartufo Nappa for ZLS, I could live with that.

If they add some upholstery and trim options then it will help for sure.

The reason I’m pessimistic on the upholstery is that while they removed the merino options for the G30, including the upper trim level M550, it has still been available on other models, including X5.

Now that the G60 production vehicles are out. You can clearly see multi-contour seats are no longer an options with the adjustable back rest. Not one video i have seen has it. LOL and no rear seat back pocket, no lining in the door shelves, no storage in rear armrest, no ambient light on the rear doors, no cover for front cup holders and no comfort access in rear door handles. wow

None of which I've used in countless years now. For me, if those added to any sort of cost savings, I'm good.

I don’t know about cost savings for the buyer but definitely higher margins for BMW. You have to remember we are talking about a luxury car here. These things all add up to give you the special feeling that the 5 used to stand for.

This just proves more and more on what they're trying to do:

Regarding multi contour seats, are you still looking at videos and pictures only or are you looking at order guides and talking with dealers? If only looking at pictures, I think you're making assumptions that may or may not end up true. Also, you're in Canada where you get different options than the US. The Welt product specialist I spent 45 minutes with sitting in and looking around the i5 M60 shook his head in disbelief when I told him Canada and US often use different product options. He assumed all NA was the same. I didn't notice which seats I sat in other than they were black veganza and didn't ask for clarification of the multi-function/multi-contour, etc.

Back to the seats... on the US BYO site the i5 M60 states the standard seats are "Power Multi-contour front seats including power backrest width adjustment and thigh support, as well as power head restraint height". That's width vs upper backrest angle as in my G30 multi-contour seats. The order guide also lists "456 Multi-contour seats" as standard on M60 and optional on eDrive 40. Mine are the 456 Multi-contour seats and also have side bolster width adjustment, but not on the articulated upper backrest width. It's possible G60 multi-contour now means upper backrest width rather than upper backrest angle. Even if this is a change, it requires a button to control it on the seat. If you don't see that extra adjustment button on the main seatback button, it's not multi function or multi contour. And as we know, some features are not available at launch due to supply chain issues. Pretty normal for BMW and many product manufacturers.
