On the car's built-in navigation map it displays dozens of gas station locations with a little icon at each location. This is kind of annoying and I'd assume that the driver should be able to toggle this on or off yet I couldn't find anything about this in either the regular owners manual nor the navigation/entertainment/communication manual.

Any ideas?

If it’s not possible to hide them, that’s kind of a weird/funny little oversight that I can already tell is going to drive me nuts when I pickup mine

I believe these are called Points of Interest, and they used to be configurable in old versions of iDrive. PoIs can be searched in 8.5, but I haven’t found any mention of adjusting icons on the map. Poop.

I fooled around with the map view and I think it has to do with what view you choose (swipe in from right side of the display). "Full" gives you all those icons whether you want them or not. "Adaptive" does not. As far as I can tell, that's the only fix available. I liked it better when you could select what points of interest you wanted to show on the map (gas stations, hospitals, BMW dealerships, etc.). That doesn't appear to be possible with iDrive 8.5.

If you find all those gas station markers annoying, imagine my reaction to not being able to turn them off given I'm driving an EV.

But that's only one of a long list of little niggly little stuff that I find annoying about my car. Terrific car overall, but lots of unnecessary distractions.

LOL. Sometimes there can be too much information if part or all of it is immaterial to one's needs.
