Expensive EV only work for businesses not private individuals.

Everyone seems to be hung up on the range of EVs and yet the average UK car only does 7,400 miles per annual, that’s around 21 miles per day so for most people a range of 200-250 miles is more than enough and on the occasional long journey sure you might need to call in to one of those fast chargers but only to get enough charge to get you home (maybe 5-10minutes) where you will charge it up fully again.

The price I do think is too high, especially for private buyers but then again the performance is mighty and no one bats an eye at this price for an M5 with equally as little range.

I owned the F90 M5 Competition and just recently sat in the new i5M60, I don’t see this huge drop in material quality others are reporting, some parts feel hard plastic compared to before but this is true for all brands and that are mostly very low and seldom touched. Overall I was very impressed and coming from an i4M50 this new i5M60 beats it in every way so IMO it’s arguably the best big EV currently on sales.

I’m personally hung up on range as I can’t charge at home and don’t want to waste my time queuing / waiting for the car to charge.
That’s a big step backwards for me as respects convinience which is surely the whole point of the car?
It may suit some people , have no issue with that, but it doesn’t suit me .(and plenty of people in similar position)

After living with an EV for 2+ years if you can’t charge at home I personally wouldn’t recommend switching to one yet, at least not until the intrastructure is good enough to make the charging completely hassle free and cheap because the charging at home is where most of the benefits of owning an EV is at, the electricity rate for night charging is cheaper and you aren’t going out of your way to fill it up it’s all done whilst you sleep so you step out of your house with a full tank all the time.

I have read and watched numerous reviews and whilst most reviewers get hung up on range despite for 95% it not being an issue, I think their real issue with a performance EV over your regular one is the lack of emotion that you get from an engine, especially a tuned engine and I kind of get this because all EVs are silent and any noise is added through speakers so any EV could have this added.

Remove the sound and for most petrol headed the experience is lacking, this will take time to reeducate the brain.

Near silence has itnplace, a long motorway drive for example but I like to feel engaged. That’s the whole point of driving for me, I enjoy. I’m in my late fifties and even now, I still look forward to every drive , even if it’s only a short one to the shops or whatever.

I agree with home charging. I love it. The car range is actually pretty good. I only charge once a week at home. I drive maybe 150-200 miles a week. If I didn’t charge at home, there is are fast chargers 5 miles from home. It would take 30 minutes a week. Not a deal killer for me, but certainly less convenient.

To be fair if you have experienced the i4M50 or the iXM50/60 then you will know that the Sport Sound that has been engineered for BMW actually makes spirited driving enjoyable, WAY better than the Porsche or any others I have sampled.

It might not be as good as a thumping V8 but in the world of EV it’s the next best thing.
