Max range German Highway
Ffor the i5 eDrive 40: what is your experience regarding the maximal distance you can go on a German Highway/Autobahn without recharging? It would be nice to get some experience for average speeds of 130km/h, 160km/h, 180km/h.

I heard that Kyle Conner from the excellent Out of Spec channel is doing some heavy duty work with the i5 eDrive 40 currently, they normally do a constant speed test of absolutely range at 70mph (112kph) on flattish terrain in Denver, Colorado. Not quite the autobahn, but that might yield some really relevant information. I’ll bet that the range will drop dramatically above that - if you search ArenaEV’s review of the i5M60 they created an algorithm based upon real world testing that simulates range at different speeds and temperatures. That’s the M60 however so presumably the eDrive 40 would be superior.

Thank you very much, the video is very informative! At the end of the day, driving the i5 like a 520d on the highway, ie mainly around 160 km/h - going up to 200km/h where possible - slowing down to 130km/h due to traffic, will probably give a maximal range of approximately 200km, I guess.
