Really wish they would stop connecting the lower intake design into the grills. I especially think its bad on the X5/6M which make it look almost Lexus spindle like.

Sweet looking front end, well done and aggressive from this angle. A touch of modern! Striking similarity in design language with the X5 as predicted. Interior would likely be similar.

yepp, front looks like a suv.
Seems like there are basically 4 current design languages/clusters. We have the 7, x7 and XM, all the upper models - split headlights. Then the 3, 5, x3, x4, x5, are similar, the middle class. Then we have the beaver family M3, m4, 4s and ix etc. Then we have some sideline models like the 2s, x1s, the lower models. and lastly a few that are old and on their way out anyways like the z4 and the 8 series. There we go! Not sure if that design line splitting the headlight is only limited to the M cars, hood suits an M car with the lines similar to M3.

I found this image on IG as well - looks promising.
Headlights are less organic/more geometric than the X5 which was unexpected but not necessarily bad. Kidneys look good but that sensor right in the middle of the horizontal slats is unfortunate. You'd think by now there would be a better way to integrate the tech. Overall it's better than I expected and by modern standards for BMW and rivals (looking at you EQE), its pretty good. If you can get behind the tech, safety and performance (along with requisite regulatory compromises) - and leave the "not my 5 series" (E39) rhetoric aside, I think there's a winner in there. |

Mmmm it’s not offensive
Black roof so maybe looking like two tone paint That colour suits it Radar sensor in kidney looks a bit fussy You can definitely see the new design language there Although at this point in time my preference fornstyling is still the g30 over what I see here, it’s really not bad , just different. Sure this is a winner Interior will be interesting but I’m expecting similar to the i7 |

I just don’t have a mindset to compare this to the G30 as better or worse. It’s a separate car and a separate judgement for me. Maybe that’s because I’m enamored with my M550 right now and there really won’t be another one. I certainly see the M560e as being a new species and not a continuation of its predecessor in the lineup. If I were still driving the 540 and had no affinity for the (almost) all ICE V8, perhaps I’d look at it differently.
Regardless, it’s nice to not be looking with much bias and just waiting to see if I like it, all on its own. There is just so much change happening in operating systems, interior methods of utility, interior design, and of course powertrains that it doesn’t seem like much of an evolution, outside of exterior styling. I won’t be in the market for the G60 anytime soon and will hopefully have my G30 M550 for a long time (beyond daily driving duty). But that’s not as much a function of my judgement on the G60 as it is a function of how much I love what I’ve got. It seems unpopular to be positive around here, but I honestly think it’s going to pretty awesome and I hope it sells like hotcakes. I want the 5 series to be around for a long long time. It’s a great segment.

Something we don't hear much (yet) about is the chassis changes, improvement in handling, steering, suspension, rear wheel steering?, and the expected enhanced driver assistance. Take that all away and even for a barebones vehicle if it does well on the range (PHEV) and handling/driving dynamics is a bigger step than a mild evolution. Design (exterior and interior) as you rightly said is just one element that first line for marketing.
