Comparison to 8 Gran Coupe?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Was wondering if anyone here has the opportunity to drive both and could compare and contrast the driving experience and interior volume (in-person experience, not numbers). I'm curiously because dimensionally, the G60 is now the same size as the 8 Gran Coupe. Side-by-side pictures would be great too.

I got my i5 on 12/30. On 12/31 we traded out 2022 8 Series (B8) for a new 911.

So we had and drove the 8 Gran Coupe for a while and loved it. The new 5 Series drives and feels much larger than the 8 Gran Coupe. The interior of the 8 Series is more classic BMW looking, and controls and bits and bobs do not feel, nor look "old", but compared to the new 5 Series....they feel slightly dated. Overall materials in the 8 feel richer and "heavier" (if that makes sense).

Honestly, the 8 Gran Coupe was one of the best BMWs we have ever owned.

I think the B8 gran coupe is the best looking BMW ever made. It’s also nearly double the price of my 540 but for good reason.

I initially planned on picking up a used 850i GC but decided I wanted a new car and went with the 5.

8 series drives a lot lower than the new 5. Both drives well but you do feel like there's slightly better visibility given the height of the 5. I don't know the exact weight comparison but I couldn't feel any differences in that regard.

I also feel I have a lot more leg room in the 5; the 8 interior design has that weird upside down triangle feel in the center console and that eats into some of the space of the driver.

Thanks for the impressions. By "driving larger" do you mean the weight or general maneuverability/handling? I understand the i5 is significantly heavier than any version of the 8 because it's an EV.

It would be interesting to see how the 840i compares to the new 540i since at this point those are the only two with the same engines.

The new 5 Series (I have the i5) feels just wider, heavier, taller and bigger than how our B8 Alpina felt...even though the new 5er and the 8 Gran coupe are almost identical in length.

Our B8 just felt more glued to the road, and very much like a Bentley GT. The drive in my new i5 is amazing, but there was something very, very special in our 8 Gran Coupe.

Garage List
not sure about the gran coupe, but i believe the 8 series is based off a 4 series chassis, therefore though large from the outside, the interior is quite small. and the roofline is quite low, which equates to less visibility out the front window.

I’ve had two 8’s - Coupe and now a GC and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. I honestly think I’ll buy out the lease and just keep it a few years. It’s loaded with most options, and the Bowers & Wilkins sound is just superb. Only better stereo I’ve heard in a car was the Mark Levinson system in a Lexus LS.
