Most efficient way to change into and out of sport mode?
I just upgraded from a '22 i4 M50 to a '24 i5 M60, and I miss how easy it was to quickly drop into sport mode on the i4 - one button press on the center console, then going back to comfort was easy as well.
Having to tap "My Modes" on the console then potentially scroll and tap on the screen can't be the most efficient way, can it? I usually like to spend 90% of my time in comfort but then pop into sport for some brief twisties if there's no traffic. I haven't been able to assign a shortcut, or one of the custom gestures to change the mode - hopefully I'm missing something obvious? |

Maybe the quickest way is to say, "Hey BMW, Sport Mode". Another way, if you just want 10 seconds of Sport mode, is to pull the boost paddle.

Mine has not arrived yet but have been wondering the same thing. I use sport mode for over takes or when joining fast flowing traffic etc.
I have been trying to see what another flick down in the drive selector does if anyone knows. Park, neutral, drive then sport? Might depend on if the car is ICE, phev or full electric maybe? In my current 3 series G20 you could flick the gear selector to the side to get sports gear box. Anything similar? I am hoping the electric boost will help on these kind of things as my test drive car felt very responsive in normal drive mode. Great tip on voice command, with more in depth menus that might be a good route now for a lot of settings. |

I don't believe there is any way to enter sport mode using the gear selector. For overtakes or joining fast traffic, the best way is probably to pull the boost paddle because it's instant Sport Mode, plus maximum power for 10 seconds (for the i5 models, not sure what it does on the ICE vehicles). That usually all you need to overtake or join fast traffic.
The drive selector can be pushed and pulled in two ways - sort of like the turn signals. You can pull it gently towards you to the first detent only, and it will move down one position at a time from Park to Neutral and so on. However, if you pull it all the way towards you past the first detent, then it will go directly into D. If you pull it back again, it goes into B on the i5 models (B is for one pedal driving). Pull it back again and it just toggles between D and B. If you push it forward one detent from D or B, that puts you back to neutral, or if you push it forward all the way, past the detent, then puts you in Reverse. There is no way to put it in Park using the gear selector. To put it in Park, just press the P button for the Parking brake, and that also puts the car in Park. Basically the gear selector lets you move between R - N - D/B (see the picture below). I hope that helps.

On my test drive (which was 48 hours!) I tried sports mode using the my modes route. It wasnt until a few weeks later the issue of quickest route to do it occurred to me! I tried to cover everything in those two days but some things it seems, always slip through. Hopefully not too long to wait now. Thanks 👍 |

All the previous 5s we had with auto transmission seemed to have something like this. On e39, e60 and f10 you pushed the shift lever to the left for sport or manual shifting, and back to the center to go back to regular drive. The DCT cars like the M5 had a hard button for drivetrain mode but that’s a different story.

In the G30 when moving the gear lever to the left when in D it goes to S1 which I believe is different to Sports mode in that it only affects the transmission (and not throttle response, steering etc). Is that the case for the hybrid/ICE G60s? That is pulling down to S is not the normal sports mode it's only for the transmission?
