Just a guess, but I would assume allocations will drop in June for a July production…. Might be able to put an order in now for the bank.

Ah, you're right... Nov 2023 is SOP for the 540.... so I would expect probably Sept/Oct is when you can place an order in the bank for an allocation.

Would not be surprised if they label it as M540xi in all-wheel drive only and over price it like they do for other cosmetic “M” badge cars. It’s a 375hp output with mild hybrid, so who knows if RWD is in the works or not.

It would be a shame though if it’s only AWD.

doubt it as there will be a m560e. by the way which cosmetic M badge cars are you referring to? usually there is a significant increase from the base model to justify it as a M-lite car.

The 2024 540 MSRP is $300 less than a 2023 if I recall correctly.

F30 340i to G20 M340i
Same for X3/X4.

If you are calling 40bhp improvement a significant bump it’s really is just cosmetic M-badging. That’s just natural evolution of powertrains that should be rolled in without the fanfare.

X5 40i has the same engine and is not called that M-lite version if you will. Sure it’s a much heavier vehicle.

The bottom line is BMW marked up the prices on these vehicles so much more by adding a light tune to exhaust sound, M body kit as standard and a badge to make it an M-lite car with an inline 6. The price on X3 M40i for example is ridiculous (compare of X3 35i of older gen), because every other option is the same as in X3 30i. Yes you get to “upgrade” to more cosmetic stuff like wheel styles etc to jack up the MSRP even further.

If you look carefully, similar pricing logic can be applied to why the coupe X4 and X6 are more expensive than X3/X5. Every manufacturer does this for that little slope on the roofline.

In-line 6 has been around for a while, now on some models you can only get it on an overpriced “M-lite” car. It’s a pure marketing and sales genius to improve margins.

I see where you are coming from, but a small sedan like a 3 series going from 326 hp to 382 hp is a lot. thats ~50 extra horses. plus any car near a 400 hp territory with sports tuning/suspension deserves to get some type of "sports" badging in my opinion. This is why they don't sell the m340i with luxury suspension. would be pretty pointless.

If you take the current m340i and compare it against the 2015 m3 (which is the MY F30). I am pretty sure it would stack up quite well.

Even the current M550i is basically the F10 M5 on paper.

I hear you on the x3/x4 thing on the roofline, unless the x4 comes with more options. at least i think for the x5/x6 the x6 comes standard with more options. Its just like when there is a sedan and coupe version of the same car but the coupes are always more expensive to lease as the residuals are lower.

and for the base model i am comparing it to the current base 330i (255 hp 4cylinder) to a M340i (382hp i6). Thats a whopping 127 hp lol.

Dealers are getting allocations now for 540xi. Seems like no RWD for MY2024 atleast (or the future)

SOP 11/23

Can anyone post order/pricing guide?

Correct, and BMWs model naming convention (subject to change) is to use the highest output engine in the model range that is not the full M model as the M-lite model. Since the B58 I-6 is the largest in 3 series, the M340i gets it. In the 5 series it would be either the V8 engine or likely forthcoming hybrid.
