Of course but still closer competitor to an M5 than a 911 you know
They're all fat pigs including my almost 4000 lbs M3.

The question is can they hide the weight and is that for the sedan or wagon. Will it feel like it weighs less?
Also, in the straight line stuff the weight maybe moot with the EV powertain part. The question will be dynamics. Lucid has been able to find a happy medium on the upper spec Airs. |

You’d think as BMW’s designs and engineering progresses that they would realize to make these car less heavy I.e improves performance and efficiency. But I guess not, this thing is heavy.

I mean, the answer is pretty obvious. One is a 2+2 dedicated sports car with a 3 liter flat six engine and RWD. The other is a full sized saloon car as large as a recent 7 series, packing not only a twin turbo V8 but also a torque converter auto, an electric motor and an 18 kWH battery. And, of course, AWD.
It's not much of a mystery. What it is, however, is a shame. |

The 911 isn’t about speed. Hell it has a manual transmission! It’s infinitly more fun than my X3MC, which would probably give the new M5 a run for its money at 5300lbs. The G90 is over a 1000lbs more than the outgoing F90. That’s wild! And not in a good way. |

I'm just glad they did not move everything to a hybrid powertrain with a 1,000 lb penalty for the pleasure......yet. I Will be very interested to see how they differentiate this from other hybrid and full electric super sedans that weight as much as a building. Feels as though it will be competing with the Lucid Air, Taycan Turbo S, Model S P100D, etc. My concern is while these cars can all rocket in a straight line, I don't know that anyone is raving about their handling capabilities, skid pad numbers or anything else outsde of a launch controlled launch (i.e. 0-60 numbers). Maybe this is the new era of muscle cars?

I am absolutely not surprised by these G90 specs, to be honest I thought it would have a bigger and heavier battery. I wish I could blame BMW for all this but that would mean that there is a chance that this can get any better. The sad truth is that this will become worse and worse with every generation - I remember being disappointed that my F90 competition LCI had nearly two tons and was 100 kg havier than my old non Comp first edition - sounds like two light weight vehicles from todays point of view… I think (looking at the G series m2/m3/m4, also heavy af) BMW will somehow manage to hide some of the weight but knowing that Porsche is also pretty good in chassis tuning and knowing how the Panamera e hybrid drives, hmm, well let’s see..

The end is near.
Let's do some maths shall we? F90 weight (highest published figure) 4,345 lbs. Rated Power = 625. Power to weight = 6.952 lbs/HP. G90 weight 5,368 lbs. MAX Power = 718HP. Power to weight = 7.47 lbs/HP. Now, let's factor in the fact that you CAN deplete the battery in full during a driving session and now you're left with 577HP. Same fat weight. This yields a power to weight of 9.30 lbs/HP. Those are hard figures, you cannot change them. What the engineers CAN do is fill in a lot of that electric torque way down low which will yield a better 0-60 -- since that seems to be all that the general public care about any more. I believe that 0-62 (0-100) may be a tick faster than the F90. I think 100-200kph are going to be slower. Top speed will be lower (unless Cd is much lower vs. F90). If power delivery is managed like all of the other hybrid systems recently released, the computer is going to decide when and how much kick you're going to get out of that side of the power plant. I love that my F90 is a perfect blend of power and luxury -- but I also love that I paid for a car w 625HP and that I can have it all any time I put my foot down until the tank runs out. I'll test drive one of the new G90 when it comes out later this summer - but likely I'm out for the series. Yeah yeah, call me old, call me not in tune w the future. I just can't justify spending that kind of money on a car that is going to be slower, and potentially a LOT slower once the battery is depleted.
