William Shatner just keeps plugging along and it seems he has stopped aging!! For some reason, I think because George Foreman passed away yesterday, seeing Captain Kirk’s 94th birthday made me think of whenever he passes away and suddenly made me feel a little emotional. Wasn’t expecting that!! That kind of reminds me of the passing of JFK, Jr. John was about a year and a half older than I am and honestly I had never thought about him a lot, but when he was killed it unexpectedly hit me really hard. I think it was just because he had always been in the news throughout my whole life and we were hitting the same life milestones at the same time and I suddenly felt like I had lost someone I knew.

Anyway, I think I kind of feel that way about Shatner, because I was a crazy Star Trek fan!! I lived for Star Trek every week and I got and glued together models of the Tricorder, Communicator, and Phaser. I used to spend a lot of mental energy contemplating how the transporter worked. When I was a young teenager a friend of mine got me a set of plans for the Starship Enterprise and I used to lay them out on my bed and study how everything in the ship fit together. I actually still have the plans today.

Interesting how things can affect you in unexpected ways.

My youngest is currently at U of Iowa so on the way to Iowa City one time we made a stop in Riverside to visit the monument marking JTK's future birthplace. Fun diversion if you're ever in the area. Or maybe you already make an annual pilgrimage and I'm just telling you something you already know.

I did not know or have any idea! I might have to do that. Thanks! One of the things I like about living in Chicago and the Midwest is being very centrally located. It’s just about a four hour drive from Chicago. In Texas when you say you are centrally located that means you are centrally located to things within the state of Texas!!

I opened a very stubborn pickle jar for my wife yesterday. Took one of my knuckles out of commission for two hours...

My grandmother and mother-in-law had rheumatoid arthritis and it was really bad. Was reading that it can skip generations so I hope my daughter or son don’t get it. My daughter already has arthritis, she is 43yo.

I do have arthritis in my thumbs. But this was just muscle cramps. I was working with some hand tools fitting out a server cabinet. I guess my hands aren't used to that any more.

After struggling with it on my left hand, I bit the bullet and had it fixed
just a few months after I retired. Three fingers, all at once. Finger
numbers 3, 4 and 5. My joke is it could’ve been 2, 4 and 5, if you
get my drift.

That happened to me shoveling snow back in January. First time ever that I couldn't fully flex my hands for a while after shoveling.

This made me think of one.

You strike the edge of the lid of a jar at an angle with the blunt edge of a butter knife, numerous times if necessary, to loosen it so you can open it. I’m not the only one who learned this from his mother am I?
