Seat question

Hi guys,

which seats do you have to order to have this gap here with the seat extension? I really like to use this in my current M440i to put something in there on the passenger seat.

However, in the 550e that I test drove, there was no gap, so it was closed when it was fully extended.

It sounds like the car you drove had comfort seats. Only the sport seats have that gap.

So, if I just choose the 550e with M-Package Pro should it be like this? Does Veganza leather or Merino make no difference?

Build the car on bmw website and toggle btw all the colors and materials.
Both The luxury seat and sport seat are not offered in all combinations of materials - better to go thru them all so you understand the options.

From what I know, the standard sports seat have that gap on the leg extension as it is manually operated. The "Luxury Seating Package" adds 456 multifunction seats aka comfort seats which doesn't have the gap as the leg extension is power operated from the touch screen and rolls out. Veganza or Extended Merino leather is just the surface material so in other words, you can option either the standard sport seat or "Luxury Seating Package" independent of Veganza or Extended Merino. Some folks prefer the former surface as the latter is only offered in a two-tone color.

You are wrong about optioning independently.

For example - the Alcantara seats, silverstone merino, burgundy venganza - can only be had in the sports seats.

I believe that gap is only on the Sport seats. I have the luxury seats and there is no gap. As someone else said, it's because the Sport seats have a manual adjustment there, while the luxury seating package has powered controls for that area. The first picture below shows the Sport Seats (found that picture online). The rest of the pictures are of the luxury seats from my car. In addition to the gap, the headrest is also a little different. My drivers seat has the thigh support extended quite a bit, but the passenger side keeps it much closer (because my wife is shorter than I am).

I think you'll be safe if you go online to build your car, and you see that you have the option for the luxury seating package, then just don't select it. Alternatively, make sure it is not listed on your order sheet when you get it from the dealer.

I hope this helps.

Correct. THe luxury seats I have have no gap. I went by the dealership to look at their sport seats and they have the gap in the manual thigh extensions.

Thanks for all your feedback.

I have another additional question:

If I go with the sport seats, do they have the feature to automatically adjust how tight you are hold in the seat when you switch to sport driving mode? That’s kinda nice.

Comfort seats also tighten the bolsters automatically too, yes?

I can't find that feature in my car. Where do you go to adjust how tightly Sport mode will hold you compared to other modes like Personal mode? As far as I know, the amount of bolster movement when you put the car in Sport mode is not adjustable.

Sport seats in my case - go to settings when in Sport mode, activate in Seat support for sporty driving.

Thanks so much for the picture! I have that feature turned on in my car for both driver and passenger.

I thought the question was if you can adjust the amount of change that the bolsters effect, not just whether they are on or off. AFAIK, it's just on or off for each front seat, but there is no way to adjust how much tighter Sport mode makes the bolsters.

Agree. Just on/off not adjustable.

It’s also a fixed point not a a relative adjustment. Meaning - If you already have the bolsters at or tighter than what sport mode is fixed too, then when you put it in sport mode it will not tighten up more at all.

My bad, read your post on the phone and didn't notice the whole sentence.

I doubt that the amount of side bolster pressure can be preset for when the feature is activated.

I have the I5 Msport in the UK and have this, it’s not electrically adjustable but has a little handle on the front of the seat to extend it! Didn’t pay any extra for it so assume it comes as standard?
