Unless there is a massive price difference, what would be the point in this? If you want the extra legroom wouldn’t you just opt for the 7 series?

I’m 6’3 and can comfortably sit behind my driver seat without touching the back of the driver seat with it set to my driving position on my 24 540.

They had to extend it to fit the Theater Screen inside. Legroom is added bonus for stretching out a bit more without having to drop an extra $30,000+ for a much heavier 7 series.

Strange market, there is a thing about having lots of legroom in the back. I think they do it 3 series aswell for this market

Not convinced it’s made it look any better personally. Each to their own of course

As for the illuminated “5”, another gimmick I think it could do without. Is the i5 badge on the back not enough?

I like that its pulsing while charging (on i5). Less tacky than illuminated kidney?!

Would be interesting to have some professional insights into this market habit.

However I assume that LWB is favoured since owners have their own drivers and that there‘s still a gap between 5 LWB and 7 series.

The position of the i5 vs the i7 is a really interesting question. It’s become clearer to me that much of the questions about “why didn’t BMW include X?” In the i5, may be due to the potential to close the gap to the i7 (although I’m sure BMW will make more money from i5). The ride and tech are so similar between the two cars, that it feels that they need to look at other areas to find differentiation (e.g. acoustic glass on the 7). Creating a long wheelbase version is an interesting angle - but I wonder how much of this is also due to the oddball styling of the i7?

nothing is strange, you cater to those who spend money, not to those who buy the lowest trim and complain about everything

Well.
In China, they have every models in L version.
320Li, 520Li

Because Chinese love bigger cars.
Enlong them is the easiest solution.
LOL
Not a big problem for car makers because they are all made in China

Basically it's the same car with bigger gap between front and back seats.
I was so surprised when I first time getting into one.

It's not about the 7 but the 3. Even 325Li is longer than 540i.

I'm 6'1 and I have to say 5 series's backseat is pathetic. You ever tried to sit in a Honda accord? You have no idea what comfortable means man.

Good for 3s and 5s. 7 series seemed way too long after they streched it. Not only makes it feel longer but also bigger. A couple of times when I was in China I saw a 325Li and thought it's a 5 from the back. Especially for the old generation when they have similar taillights. You'd never need a 5 because 3 is already big enough

I’m comfortable in mine which I think is a tad longer than the previous generation. My dad has an I7 and it’s obviously no where near that.

My son is 6’2” and has no trouble fitting in the 5. Maybe he has a longer torso and shorter legs than you. He only wears a 32” inseam.
